hey i have jus traded in the yzf and brought a 07 ktm 450 sxf and i got no idea what oil to run into it it says mineral oil only on top of the clutch resivour lip thing so can u run synthetic oil in it? at the moment im running 15w60 but then clutch has to be adjusted to almost full to work until it heats up. so im quessing wrong oil i might try the 10w40 ?? what does every one else think? thankyou

If Im not mistaken the mineral oil is called for in the clutch reservoir since its a hydraulic clutch, not in the case. But what do I know, I slept on a lumpy bed last night.

I'm with Doc. I don't know much about KTM's but they do have hydraulic clutches. I wouldn't substitute. Use mineral oil.

If you are referring to the motor oil you are using in the tranny, just make sure it is non energy conserving. EC oil contains friction modifiers that will cause clutch issues. Look at the circular API label on the bottle, the lower half should be blank. If the lower half says "energy conserving" don't use it in your bike.

Hello, I am a long time lover of my 450 sx. The mineral oil is for the clutch resevoir only. DOT 4 for the brake resevoir and I run Thumper 4 stroke 20w50 oil faithfully after having problems with other oils including synthetics for cars. I change the oil twice to every filter change to save money on filter and I find they aren't dirty enough even on the second change...but you can never be too careful of your pocket. Take good care of the fluids and the KTM will last a long time. Mine is a 2003 with almost(notice I said almost) no problems since new. I raced it for two seasons in intermediate class, then retired to just riding a practice track and sandpits for fun since. I LOVE THE BIKE, just wish I had the electric start though. ENJOY!!!
