Default 250 SXF siezing?

Ok im scared, Ive always wanted a KTM, I have been riding a KX 125 for years and decided to go bigger, and I bought a 2006 KTM SXF 250. I always come on this site for advice and information and I found out that sometimes these motors sieze?? I bought this amazing bike (ballsy and fast) 2 days ago, should I sell it allready or is it going to be a money pit? Anyone have any concrete evidence that this bike will fail on me or what? Just nervous about the new bike, but I love the thing, its great, thanks

to tell you the truth, I dont know, I never asked the guy I bought it from. I came on the site and saw the posts about the siezing. The bike is so clean, it looks like no one rode the thing. The break in period for it is 12 hours of not going full throttle, so to be safe I didnt beat on it too bad. Ive only put about 5 hours on it since I got it

KTM are BULLETPROOF. Unless the previous owner abused it. If you take care of it (oil and filter changes every 4-5 hours along with new air filter) you will be golden. KTM's are some of the most reliable 250 4strokes out there. Just check out dirt rider's long haul on that bike. It helped convince me to buy my new 2007 KTM 250 SXF and its got about 24 hours on it right now and i've had no hiccups or problems whatsoever.

They recalled one of those years (I think it was '07), but with the internet it seems to me things get overblown and the negative always shows up a lot more than the reality of problems. Just maintain it and keep your eye on it and I think you'll be fine.

I have seen a few for sale here locally for around $3k - $3.5k. What did you pay just out of curiosity?

I have heard that KTM's are bullet proof, and I have been keeping a close eye on it. I have put about 30 hours on it, and I just got back from a riding trip in VT. I love this bike, everyone who rides it loves it. I picked the bike up for $3,000. Well worth it, and thanks for all the info guys.

Just maintain it and you'll be good. I dont know how much the carbs differ from the 06-07 but I would say put a JD Jetting kit in it cuz I know mine runs lean (they are jetted for California emissions stock)

The recall you're talking about is the gas cap on the 07s and i believe the 08s as well...not sure tho. I need to get my new gas cap as mine as started leaking. They switched to a 1/4 turn gas cap in 07 which is really nice but they didn't quite get the seal right. No biggie once you get a new one tho =)

I don't know of any other major recalls

I will definatly keep up on the maintanance, I know what its like if you dont. My only struggle will be learning on how to work on 4 strokes, the 2 smokes are easy. I heard its not horrible working on 4 strokes, so hopefully everything will work out.

as long as you have a good manual and some decent mechanical abillities you should be fine.

I am an electrician, so I have mechanical abillities, just no knowledge of the bikes, like I always say, I'll figure it out, I hope, haha

Yeah i never heard about that so it must've been a bad batch of rods or something.
Compared to Yamaha my KTM is EXTREMELY easy to work on. Once you start doing routine maintaince and other odds and ends you will love the engineers at KTM...they are geniuses lol

Default 400 + hours

I have over 400 hrs on my 07 250 sx-f and I am just doing a rebuild on it the rod to crank bearing went out but I have to say that is pretty good
I also clean my filter after every ride change my oil every 2 rides and check my valves twice a year has worked great for me
