Default A Card to Motoman393 .......

At the last [5th] “Garrett Berg – Remembering Those Who Rode Memorial Race I was given a card by Bryan Golleher and his family. I was told that the card was about “Garrett.” This card has and does “touch me” in a way that is beyond description. I have never received a card that has impacted me greater than this one does. Until now I have not been capable of sharing it.

The card reads:

In Loving Memory – Motoman393

Some rare and special people
change the world simply by being in it.
They move gently through life,
listening, caring, and understanding,
always seeming to know
Just what another needs.
Their lives shine with the love of God.

And…when they’re gone,
they leave behind
so many precious memories
that show us how one life
truly can make a difference.

Thanks for sharing Mr Berg, It's hard to know what to say when people are so caring. I have recently realized myself how overwhelming it can be.

That all rings very true from everything I have seen! You raised a fine young man Mr. Berg.

The impact of just one person can, and still does, impact those around them in a very positive way.

Speaking only for myself, Garrett will always have that impact on me.

Thanks Mike for teaching your son how to be a man.

Thank you for sharing, I hope today is a great day for you.

I think all to often we don't realize how much we have until it's gone, and you are a living reminder to help all of us remember to cherrish and love what we still have.

Thanks Dave for your comment. I have often quoted a saying I learned from a great man named Carl Stevens - he said that "That ole saying you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink - well that's not true!" He went on to say, "walk that horse by a salt block first and then watch them drink the water."

The correlation here is that as "parents" one of our responsibilities is to make our kids "thirsty" - it is still up to them to take the drink!

A major part of parenting is guiding our children so that they have the opportunities to make good choices - they are the ones who invariably make the choices. As we all know, all of our choices have rewards and/or consequences for which the choice maker is responsible for - or at least they should be.

Woody - I sincerely appreciate your comments. Not that you need [needed] to but since I have come to know you better, IMO you have come a long way! That my friend is a good thing. Anytime in our lives when we take that which we believe, or know to be "knowledge" and turn that into "wisdom - wisdom being defined as the proper application of knowledge" we advance in this journey known as "life." Sometimes these advances are in the physical realm and others are in the spiritual realm. These "advances" are the very things we hope that we can pass on to others - those things that can help each generations become better than the previous generation.

Mike,

Sharing that after 4 1/2 months tell me the impact it had on you. I know the impact that you and Garrett have had on me. I hope that I have led my children to the water and taught them that it would be a good idea to take that drink after licking the salt in thier wounds.

I thank you for being there for me when I have called and I look forward to more wisdom as I need it.

I love you Mike, Suzette, Garrett & Shannon
