| After reflecting (Well really Recovering Monday) and looking back on all this Tuesday. I found during the time I spent sorting out Photo’s trying to remember names, my mind kept going back to what Mike Berg kept asking me all weekend “is there any difference?” Mike is referring to GMB I compared to GMB IV, I missed the last two unfortunately and as I reflected on the entire weekend, it struck me as Mike & Shannon Berg, David and Jerry Preston lined up for the memorial Lap. Not one thing has changed from the first to the fourth. The emotion is the same, the compassion is the same, the support is the same and the feeling of loss is felt by all, no matter if it is first hand or by being a part of a greater gathering to support the families in our community. As noted I hade butterflies for a few days before arriving at Bush International, Picked up DBK, Actually missed him getting off, got in touch with Airport Paging asked if they could page DirtBikingKid, they said no we need a name. I asked again stating don’t know his real name just by DirtBikingKid, just as I said it, Jack walks by me hears that and spins around. Mike picked us up and we are off to the Bergs, Friday Night was not what it was the First GMB, I missed Jaybird and a few others, but met DBF (Dirt Biking Family) Char, Lawdog, Pragmatic, Twister family, MachoMom and so many others that I would make this far to long if I listed them, so forgive me if I miss your name. Fajita’s arrived and we all sat down to as Mike B says “The best dang fajitas in Texas” and yes they were, sorry Satch noting left. The good part was we all got to sleep about midnight, 1st GMB we laid down about 2 crashed about 3 and was at the track at 9 am I believe. Meeting Garrets Grandma and Grandpa was for me the best part of Friday night, what a great family the Bergs are, Bud and I talked about many things from Garrett as a little guy to Buds WW II days. I found out that Bud was in the Pacific under LaMay same as my Dad, I wondered if they served in the same area and same time. It was an honor for me to share those moments with Garrett’s Grandpa. Garrett’s Grandma is so full of Grace and so easy to talk to; I could say she is everyone’s Grandma, what a kind gentle lady she is. Saturday Practice was awesome, day was perfect Texas weather, for a guy coming from California I must say at about 10 am I was seriously Drenched in sweat and had not ridden yet. We arrived with macho being put in the truck and everyone telling him to get to the Hospital. I stuck my head in said Mark ya need to go bra, Macho said, I WILL IF YA’LL LET ME CLOSE THE DOOR. Off he went with MachoMom and Zoot. Satch felt bad enough, so I encouraged him, telling him not to beat himself up, we all will do it for him. Satch I really appreciate what you said, you do not know what that means to me, been getting beat pretty hard lately and your Friendship is greatly accepted and mutually stated I am proud to call you my friend. Saturday was a lot of fun, watching everyone interact, ride, bench race ride and bench race again. Sunday race Day Arrives and I tell you the excitement as well as the emotion was only surpassed by the reason we all were there. There was electricity in the air as riders came in got ready, stood for the Riders meeting, listen to Mike Speak and Boyd with an opening Prayer. Before it all began though I believe each and all went to the tree to have a private moment remembering Garrett. I noticed many walk that path and rider after rider pull up before the each race and blip that throttle in honor of our friend Garrett Motoman393 Berg. I don’t believe a single person was hurt (Well Accept Macho) through the weekend, and Sunday race day could not had been better. With all the riders there, all the emotions spent, the day ends as it began, in Honor and Respect as we leave the race track I noticed that someone had left a Trophy On Garrett’s Marker That said it All. My only regret is that I had not met all of you, or had the opportunity to sit and chat for awhile, Zoot Thanks, the Bergs you’re always in my prayers, The Preston family as well and to Doug Cucovatz. So to the rest the more reason to be back Next year. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |
