YZ250f Compressor and Hot Start button?

Hey guys
im planning on selling my yz125 for a 250f
I heard 2003 is the first year for the auto compression release and hot start on handlebars

To be honest with you. I have no idea what these are used for. Everyone seems to tell me a different story

Can someone explain how these work/why and if I should ALSO look into buying any 2002 models or before

The auto compression is built into the cam. It depresses an exhaust valve below a certain RPM level and allows easier kick starting. The hot start is for restarting after the engine is killed while running at operational speeds. It allows a stream of cool air in to flush the excess fuel out of the top end. The handle bar mount is for convenience, they were mounted directly on the carburetor, as my 426 is.

If you have a choice in year models get the newest, best maintained bike you can. Oil changes and checking the valve lash on a 250F are very important to longevity.
