| I am brand new to this forum so I apologize in advance if I do not know the customs. I recently pulled my 91 XT350 out of the garage from the winter, drained the bowl and started it up. It started up after several attempts and idled away with the choke on. Every time I tipped in the throttle it would start to run up, then pop and try to die. I replaced the gas and removed the filter, no change. I removed the tailpipe incase it was plugged, no change. I removed the carbs, pulled the bowl cleaned everything I know to clean and found a jet plugged, thought I had solved the problem, put it all back together, it fired right up and idled happily even with the choke off. Hit the gas, same thing, it revs up to about 4grand, pops and chugs until it either stalls or I let off the throttle. I still think this is carb related because I found that if I blow air (via compressor) into the air inlet tubes to the bowl I can rev it up for several seconds before it goes back to screwing up. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance |

| sounds like floats/needle valve are sticking, not letting enough fuel enter the float bowl and therefore starving the engine when you gas it. when you pressurized the float bowl with air, you effectively forced the remaining gas in the bowl through the main jet until you just ran out of gas. another area to look is make sure your fuel petcock (shutoff valve) is not clogged and open all the way, and fuel supply line to carb is not clogged. i'm pretty sure it is 3 phillips head screws to remove the petcock from the tank, and there should be a screen in there that is free of debris. since it sat for a while, check that it is not clogged with varnish (old gas that turned into a sticky goo) other than that, take off the carb and completely disassemble and do a full cleanup on it with an old toothbrush, a can of carb cleaner, and some compressed air. | You might want to check your air filter. It could be so old it is rotting and letting particles in the carb. Had that happend with a BW 200 and if I had just checked the air filter I wouldn't have hat to take the carb out 10 times |
