So if your clearance is too tight, you want a smaller shim so it makes the size of the gap bigger.

you are simply measuring the distance between the cam and the top of the valve bucket. When you check it, you can't even see the shims due to the bucket being over the top of them.
i think im gonna try to do it myself i kind of think i have the hang of it, another member gave some charts that said those were the valve and exhaust clearance measurements and i believe the desired shim measurements were on there too but i dont see how...you guys probably think im dumb lol..im going to try to post them up

new shim size = (measured clearance-desired clearance)+ existing shim size

example: new shim size = (.12mm-.15mm)+ 1.72mm

wich results in new shim size of: 1.69mm ... so that is the formula ive got in the video you showed me about checking the yz250..but im wondering if its wrong because when you subtract .12 and.15 you get.03 so your not gonna add that with 1.72 your gonna subtract to get the 1.69 right? so thats why im thinking that vid might be wrong...i called my local yamaha dealer ship and said that i would have to buy the shim kit that they dont sell them separate

There should be a box that will let you download the files that are attached.

Tony,
I have the Powersports DVD for Yamaha Genesis head (426 off road) valve adjustment procedures. If you want it it is yours. Just P.M. me where to send it. They were sponsors here for a short while and I got everything they had relared to the 400/426/450 lines. I don't need it anymore since I pretty much have this operation down now. Let me know, please.

Tony,
My DVD (not a VHS as I had thought) got broken. No idea how. If you want I'll order a new one and have it shipped direct to you. Let me know. My apologies for this screw up on my part. I should have checked its condition first.

Bill

Those tech posts were/are a part of Garrett's website. TT has kept the site hosted and linked through their portal for all to enjoy and use. Garrett's spirit still guides and helps people.

When checking valve clearance does the engine have to be warm? Do i have to warm it up 1st before checking the valve clearance?
