Just my .02 cents, DO NOT mod anything unless you know exactly what you're doing.

My cousin has a Yami Warrior 350 (I know its a quad, not a bike, etc..) but the concept is the same. He drilled a hole - as stated in the Mod... it allowed too much air or messed up the flow to the point where the engine ran like crap.

Be careful and good luck... recommend you do plenty of homework before jumping in...

That is good advise for anything you do.

If you modify a TTR-125 you just let the reliability go down the drain. These are low stress, beginners bikes. The riders using these for mini/Old Guy races know they are time bombs waiting for a chance to blow up on you.

Thumbs up

I didn't hear Cybermecium compair the 125 with his new 250??
I just heard him say he gave it to his lil bro, and that he is just Happy, Happy, Happy with Yamaha products...HE SAID "YAMAHA'S GOT THEIR SH*T TOGETHER: WHETHER IT'S A 125 OR 250."

You're right BTW Cybermecium...Yamaha's are great!!

The above is a classic example of reading about mods and then doing it halfway due to not understanding the purpose/consequence of the mod.

Most engine mods are aimed at increasing power. Engines make power by burning fuel. More fuel is required to make more power. That said, the correct fuel to air ratio also needs to be maintained. All of the mods discussed in this thread so far (opening up the air box, larger filter, aftermarket pipe, bigger cam, larger intake valve, port work to smooth the flow all the way from the carb throat to the combustion and into the exhaust...oh wait, those last three weren't mentioned yet 😉 ) all increase air flow through the motor. They are all useless for making more power or can even be destructive to the engine without a corresponding increase in fuel flow to keep the air:fuel ratio in the correct range. Simply put, if you make a mod but it doesn't require a jetting (fuel flow) change, you aren't making more power. Or as pointed out above, if the mod did require a jetting change but it wasn't done, you are probably making even less than before the mod.

Default Jetting

How much added horsepower does a 190 Main in a 22 1/2 pilot jet do in the stock carburetor of the Yamaha TTR 125 along with a cold air intake filter
