Question Should I or shouldn't I?

not sure if you guys have seen my posts on TT about my engine woes.. but just curious what you guys would do in my situation. i bought this engine, got a great price on it... but when i got and started to tear it down i noticed it would not turn over.. i took the clutch side case cover off and found a tooth broken on the drive gear of the clutch basket, it damaged a tooth on the primary drive of the crank, and a piece of that tooth lodged between the teeth of the crank gear stopping it (by hand).. it must have turned over under power since the cam chain is wasted, guides too... (i have new ones...) my question is... should i split the cases.. i got all the pieces out, the crank has 10 hours on it and the cam chain drive gear is fine.. so is the key (it is a 2000 426) i have a new intake cam coming as well as gaskets, piston, rings, clips and will probably order some new gears... unless i should replace the crank.. (by the way.. i was laid off, so money is tight) thanks for reading this long winded post....

I personally would get ahold of a shop manual and split the cases. You will not know what is damaged inside until you look, and all those new parts purchased with really tight funds may go to waste.

Just my Two cents worth.

I agree with FLorida. It would sure be a shame if you got it back together only to scatter again because something was overlooked. I speak from experience here! I had one motor that I assembled out of a crate and it ran great for about 20 minutes--a nut in the bottom end that was likely dropped there finally hit something that rotates and cracked the case, spilling the oil and ultimately seizing the crank. I would definitely tear it down so that you know in the end what you have!

Did you find a problem once you split the case?

Haven't seen James around here for a while, he must be really busy with work. Hope the 426 project is going well.

Talking Okay, just really busy

Rockey,
I swapped emails with him this week. He is still really busy with the new job and getting the new Bronco going. No progress on Frankenbike right now and he misses all of us. shoot him an email through the personal page here and he will get back with you.
