Default Oil change on WR250 - copper washers?

Hi all

Continuing in my pattern of posting completly novice questions, I am going to replace the oil tommorow on my new bike, amongst other things, as part of the post break in procedures. Having read the manual it suggests I should replace a copper washer on the frame's oil strainer - my question

a) is this necessary ?

b) where can I order these washers from? Is this the kind of thing I can just get from my local hardware store?

Thank you,

Mike:
