I always pull the decomp handle in and as you start to kick down let the handle go and they start up almost immediately every time. Does your buddy have a hard time starting it too?

The 04 doesn't have a decomp lever on it, what you're pulling is the hot start. Leave the hot start alone (unless the motor is actually hot) and just kick it. Sometimes it's easier if you get the piston to TDC (where it's hardest to move) then give it a good kick.

fuel on, turn throttle to WOT 2 times, choke on, and kick, DO NOT TOUCH THROTTLE!!!!!!! Put right hand on the front master cylinder while kicking. I think the bike starts easier with 1/2 race gas and 1/2 pump gas too.

my new crf 100 starts up everytime. it takes about 1-2 kicks to do it tho. i never had to break it in to start it tho. maybe it is just the lack of finece` in your kick. i might be wrong tho.

I have a bone stock 04 and never have a lick of trouble starting it. Just get the bike in neutral, dont touch the throttle, and kick. If the bike is cold turn the choke on. If the bike has just been ridden hard and then shut off for only a minute or so, pull the hot start while kicking. |

The bit about give 2 twist of the throttle is to prime a dry engine and only applies to the first kick of the day. If it has been run at all that day, DO NOT twist the throttle.

I have a 450F and during the summer i have to pull the hot start lever for it to crank even cold. But if i use the lever she'll fire up first kick. I give it two small blips of throttle then pull the hot start and kick it one time and she start purring!
