Default Just bought an 09 yz250f..got a question

Hey guys, just picked up my blue 09 yz250f and got an awesome deal on it.. I was just curious about one thing..

When i let the bike warm up completely, you can rev it in neutral, as soon as you put in first gear with the clutch in, give it gas it dies. It also backfires quite a bit on decel

Took it to the shop, they looked at the bike, said nothing was wrong and that the hesitation is normal which i do not believe, they also said 4 strokes back fire as well which i believe is Bs as well.

So i had to pay 74 bucks for them to look at it and take the valve cover off and they said is was not a waranteed job. mind you i took it to an authorized Yamaha dealer but was not the same one i went to to buy the bike because they are in Delaware and i am in new jersey...Yamaha has been no help at all and i am really starting to become very unhappy with Yamaha.

thanks in advance
miles

The backfiring on decel indicates a lean condition. Have you adjusted the fuel screw to allow more fuel flow?

Oh...and welcome to

I suggest exactly what yzernie suggested.

you don't want to go any more than 3 turns out on the fuel screw. More than that and you need a larger pilot jet (you also run the risk of the fuel screw falling out).

I would suggest turning it all the way in, keeping track of how many turns it is, then turn it back out that number of turns + 1/2 turn.

4-strokes do pop some on decel, but a lot is not normal.

I think in the end you will also need to lower the clip on the needle in the carb to get it jetted correctly.

A good starting point for the fuel screw is 2 turns out, is this bike 2nd hand or new?

I'd be in there talking with the shop manager or the owner of the dealership. Why they would need to pull the valve cover to diagnose a carb issue is beyond me, unless for some reason they thought that the valves were too tight or loose and that was causing the problem (which would really be a last resort on a brand frickin' new bike). I'd make some noise and see if they will work with you on that bill, AND help you get your bike running right.

see thats the problem, where i got it is in delaware and i live in new jersey and i have no time to take it back down there, Yamaha said the other shop would look at it for free but as usual, they didnt, and charged me 74 bucks for the labor. im gonna make the original shop eat the bill or yamaha cuz i should not have to pay for it within 30 days..

anyone know who i can talk to about this bill a certified yamaha dealer gave me that i should not have to pay 1 because its within 30 days of the purchase of a new bike and 2 should be warrantied but i guess they found a loop hole and took the valve cover off when it clearly is a carb problem, yamaha basically told me to go screw myself (lotta help there)...
Im gettin pretty pissed off and about to take the bike back to the shop.

thanks in advance

ANY DEALERSHIP that has a Yamaha franchise is REQUIRED to honor any warranty service as well as the 30 day policy.

You could try to work with the service mngr and see if they will help but i doubt it. Contact the BBB (better business bureu spelleing?) And it will happen. If a motorcycle car or anything like that comes back for the same problem 3 times it's a lemon, and trust me they record the issue.

bottom line TAKE IT BACK, they'll fix it before they lemon law it.

so they all told me to screw myself and they claim its operator error, but as i have stated, with clutch in, put it in first and give it gas with the clutch still in, it stalls..they all claim new bikes are supposed to do that but that's just insane.

You need to ask for the highest person in charge. If the owner of the Yamaha dealer won't honor the warranty, you need to call Yamaha directly and find someone their that can help you. Im sure they have a warranty department, its a pretty big company.

Please keep in mind, if you don't stay sincere and calm, no one is going to help you. When I have had similar problems, I have called big company's (banks etc.) Ill ask for the CEO lol, (Knowing you wont get ahold of them, but you will get ahold of someone who has power). If your in the right, your problem will get resolved if you talk to the right people. Be a salesman and get past the clerk and work your way up

Just stay calm and sincere best info I can give you.

Good luck, don't get pissed

Agreed, you need to talk to the owner of the shop or someone at Yamaha, because something is definitely not right. Keep your cool or you won't get squat!

GO to the sales floor and get the General Manager. Outside of the owner what he says goes.

well ive been very calm about it, just a little annoyed at this point.. i have talked to yamaha and they cant do anything for me. They are saying because i did not go to the original shop which would look at it for free that i have to pay the bill even though its within 30 days. They have not done anything for me from yamaha or the shop so i am going to call the BBB and go that route, it sucks that its come down to that but i still feel i am in the right here..If im not please chime in.
