Default How are the TT-R 250's?

As everyone else is my uncle is considering getting a Yamaha because of the great payment options. He is thinking about the TT-R 250. I was wanting some input from PEOPLE WHO EITHER OWN ONE OR HAVE RODE ONE ONLY!!

As much as I hate to see yet another Yamaha in the allready Yamaha infested state, I just hope he gets a bike, because he needs something to do !

Thanks

Underpowered about sums it up. If he's serious, he should look into a WR or YZ 250F.

I owned one for a short time not long ago.

cowboy is right, they are a bit under-powered, but they are perfect for what they were built for.

Smooth, tractable and reliable power. They are pretty much bullet-proof given that the oil is changed every couple hundred kays and filter cleaned every couple of rides.

What previous bikes/experience has he had?

I had a TTR for my first bike. Easy to learn on, easy to ride but outgrew it VERY quickly. And Im a gurl : I would take cowboys advice and look for a WR or YZ 250F.

Default Hondas

The Yamaha is a decent bike, but if you want to get a real machine you should look at the line that Honda has to offer, may I recommend the Honda CRF250. My friends mom has one and she started riding last year and she has no problems on the bike.

Well he doesnt have the 5 to 6 grand to put into a bike so I think the TT-R is just fine for him. And honda's payment plans dont come anywhere near Yamaha's or beleive me we would be looking at a XR250 for him or something.

You answered your question. If he hasn't got the funds for a WR or YZf then the TTR-250 is the go. But I am sure you could find a cheap enough WRF or YZF around.

The above mentioned bikes are pretty user-friendly, so I would be asking what is his intended purpose going to include? If he wants to get into track then he will find limitations of WRF and TTR very quickly.

However if he is trailride/woodsrider then you can't go past WRF for allround durability and performance.

Well after some consideration he had decided to get the YZ250F instead. A few of his friends talked him into it so he will be buying a new yz250F very soon. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think he is possibly considering doing some racing.......well maybe. He definately wants to go to the tracks though and ride, so I think this is good for him!
