I've posted pics and instruction on my cam chain replacement guide and tear down and rebuild posts in the general knowledge base forum. They should help. If that still doesn't help, there's the Yamaha Online Manual link in the same forum that will have how to do this listed in there. If all else fails, let me know and I'll PM you with help.

Later,

In a nutshell- remove the timing plugs (if you have oil in the bike, it will run out the larger plug). Remove the cam cover (requires removing seat and gas tank). Put your 14mm socket on the crank nut (visible through the large timing hole). When you can see the "I" shaped timing mark through the smaller timing plug hole, the cam lobes should be facing opposite eachother (exhaust cam towards front fender, intake cam towards air box) and their should be dots on the cam gears that are flush with the top of the head.
