How do I speed up a TT-R 225?

I was at my local track with my TT-R225 last sunday and I was getting smoked by everyone else there. I was wanting to know if there are any simple ways of speeding up my bike and adding performance to it. Could some one help me out? :yum :yum :yum

That bike will never be fast on a track, it's too heavy and awkward. You could spend a bunch of money on pipes, hi comp pistons, jetting, sprockets, etc and you'll still get spanked by YZ 85's. If you want to race, sell it for a more advanced bike.

FOR WHAT IT'S MADE FOR!!! And that isn't tearing around the local mx track! If you want to race get a race bike.

Hey I hope I don't sound like a idiot then, I was just trying to say that the bike you mentioned is not ideal for mx use.

If you want a faster more fun to ride trail bike, that is pretty easy to do. A higher comrpession piston, and a camshaft (megacycle is your best bet) will do that for you. It isnt all that cheap though, and not all that easy. Conventional cartridge forks can be had that will make the front work way easy. By the time you are all done, you will have something that cost about 800 dollars to do, and you will be competitive with 125's from the early 80's. (Which is about when your bike surfaced as a 200, I have one and it is still a great trail bike.) But yours would then run with some much more updated stuff on the trail, where suspension and power are not as important. With what I mentioned I would compare yours to my modified xr250 and put it well ahead of a tt250.

Or you could take the 800 dollars and put about 2-800 more with it and get a 5 year old yz125 and have two bikes and be better off in both places.

FYI your 225 engine would make a great swap project.

This might be a stupid question, but can you put the forks from a YZ 80 or 125 on my bike? Do you even think they would fit? i don't have the cash for a 5 year old YZ125 complete bike, so I am kinda stuck with what I have.:yum

I can not tell you how easily you could do that. the conventional cartrides off of a 87 to 88 yz are easy as are the 87-88 cr forks. the usd's usually have a greater distance between the trees and a bigger bearing. all can be done,,it is just money. you should be able to do the conventionals with wheel for under 200 if you shop ebay

Biker, I doubt a newer YZ 80/85 or 125 front end would fit, your best bet is finding an older setup like Andy suggested. Good luck though, it will probably be a chore.

hi i have a ttr to. its an ok bike. not good for jumps but the low-end torque is there for me anyway. I took intake snorkle thing out and took exaust baffle out. But if you do that make sure you re jet it. I raced spitfires rm125 he beat me but not by too much. My bike is bored over .40 over but that didn't make that much of a difference. good luck.

Re: How do I speed up a TT-R 225?

Hell ya dixienw123, you seem to be the only one who agrees that the TTR is more than a play bike. Show em what your bike can do! I will take your advise on jetting the carb. what do you mean by " the intake snorkle thing thing", and did it make a differencewhen you took it out? I was thinking about taking the baffle out, but I thought that since it is sometimes not legal to ride in some places that keeping the bike sort of quiet will keep me free from the fuzz. does taking it off make the bike faster or just make it sound better? I heard that it will void your warranty if you remove it. I was also thinking about maybe putting in a less restrictive air filter. Oh yea, one more thing, did you get it bored out after you blew it or something? or did you get it done right after you got the bike? I would like to avoid getting it done because I heared that it was sort of expensive.:zap :zap :zap

on the top of the airbox when you take off seat the thing that goes into it. But if you do take it off, be careful for water getting in there. Between the combination of taking off that thing and the baffle and jetting it, it did run better or the bike i raced got slower. Yes, i only got it bored out because i thought the cylinder was warped from going though 4 feet oof water(Bad idea). it was only like $40 to bore plus piston and rings. i dont know about the warnty thing. i know where i ride it is not a problem how loud the bike is but it is not too bad w/ baffle out.

i agree with dixienw123, my ttr125 has an fmf pipe,jetted to 110(17.5 pilot - Sudco Part number = MI 004-029 $3.00 ea
12.5 pilot - Sudco Part number = MI 004-027 $3.00 ea,102.5 Main - Sudco Part number = MI 004-181 $3.00 ea
107.5 Main - Sudco Part number = MI 004-183 $3.00 ea
110 Main - Sudco Part number = MI 004-184 $3.00 ea) all i changed was the main jet. it runs okay, but i need a fork change from BBR. as far as it goes the ttr225 should have a new pipe (200 or so from fmf or pro-circuit), and if you search around i bet you can find upgrades that arent that much. what do you really want from it (suspension, power, etc.) pipe gives you a big jump, but it is louder because it is not restricted. as dixienw123 said: you could take out the exhaust baffle/spark arrestor. thatd give you a jump for free, but pipe is well expected for a big jump. i suggest you re-jet to a 110 main and 17.5 pilot, many have had big reviews, but im not sure what you ewxcat bike needs.... give me a day ill find somthein' hope that helps....

I think i have decided that I would rather have trail bike like the TTR because for one it has a larger gas tank than a race bike, and 2 I am not the most experienced rider, so the TTR is better suited for me. Greasemonkey082, thanks for the info non the pipe, but there is one problem, if I decide to remove the baffle, I will have to use a hacksaw to cut off the small tip on the end of the pipe, and I don't know if I can cut it straight. Is there some special tool I need to use to remove the baffle? because I don't see how to pull apart a solid pipe that doesn't have any weld seams. can I put any Pro Circut pipe on the bike or do i have to get a specific size? Since the bike is new, my dad won't let me make any mods to it since he paid for it, so i guess I'll have to wait for something on it to break .

You can get aftermarket Tanks(IMS,Clarke)for race bikes that are bigger to hold more gas so don't let that be your excuse.......
