Default ranger

Ranger,

The advice I have is follow the PDF (if we can get it online again...I can't find mine). The PDF and the pictures it has are crucial to doing the mod successfully.

Also I used Garrett's guide on adjusting the valves. That really helped me with the disassembly and getting the valves shimmed correctly.

Use those two guides together and you will be ok. Garrett's guide gives great advice on what to expect and be cautious of if you have never removed your cams. I printed both of these documents and taped them to the side of my bike while I did the mod!!!! LOL

Default got the file

Thanks everyone for the help.

I now have the file, and so should be all set to attack it.

I'm a little concerned about the apparent miss-match of the pitch of the gears, but as it appears that other people have done this mod OK, then I'll just have to trust it will be OK.

But the idea of not being stuck on the track, having to go through the starting routine must be worthwhile. I always tell my mates that the reason yamaha made the bike so hard to start was as a form of anti-theft. No crook is ever going to make a fast get-away on a standard 426 !!!

andrew.

The 450 cam modification is worth the effort

aneumann,
I did the 450 exhaust cam modification in July. It is simple to do if you follow the details in the .PDF file and the tips in the long thread started by Yamaben, at Thumper Talk, in the YZ 400/426/450F forum.

I spent some time talking with Satch about how to set the cams and the details. Suprisingly my valves did not need shimming. I have run my '02 426 hard since doing the modification and it is the best change I did for my scoot.

The starting is so easy now. With the Dr. D hot start and the 450 exhaust cam I am not leary of a stall now. Take time to read through all of the TT posts and get the work straight in your mind then do it.ou will be glad you took the time and effort to do this change.

Bill

Hi All,

The link above does not seem to work. Can someone please give me an active link, or send me the 450cam file directly?

Thanks!
