Grey Wire Mod / Throttle Stop?

I search the forum and was unable to find any info on the grey wire mod. Does anyone have a link? I have a 00' WR 400. I removed the tank last night and located a number of wiring harnesses but my color blindness really hinder the process, might require second party help.

I purchased the bike recently and it has the throttle stop completly removed. Should I order the YZ stop or is it not worth the hassle?

Thanks,

Ian

First off, welcome to the site. We hope you enjoy your stay here. Second, the mod that you are referencing is the blue wire mod, not the grey. Here is a thread that covers the mod at length:

Blue wire mod

As for the throttle stop, I am not sure that I follow what you are asking. WR's come with a throttle stop that can be ground off to yield full throttle and this is a good thing . If this is not what you are referring to, please describe what you are referring to a little more and we will try to find an answer for ya.

Here is a great place to get info...
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Go to "Tech Articals - Electrical - Make your YZF start better" for the mod you are looking for. Even has good pics

There is blue and a grey wire mod. The grey wire changes your timing from mid throttle and up. It was discussed here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but does not go into great detail.

The throttle stop is completely out on the bike, not ground down.

Thanks,

Ian

The grey wire mod is for the WR bikes to give it the bark of the YZF. Your owner's manual has a schematic in the electrical section which details the wiring coming out of the CDI. There is only one gray wire coming out of the CDI so it shouldn't be hard to spot. The connector is under the right side of the tank in a bundle and the grey wire is your target. Unplug it, insulate it with some electricle tape and hang on!

The throttle stop has been ground off on many WR bikes to "let her breathe" and is critical if you want the full power. Good luck with this and keep us posted!

Re: Grey Wire Mod / Throttle Stop?

I believe I located the correct wire, there was three bundles of wires and one had two wires, one being grey. No test ride yet, took the rear tire of to swap a more street friendly till I get up north and I pinched the tube: . I removed the entire top of the air box and mounted the plate on the inside of the rear fender. I'll post a pick tommorow, looks pretty good.

Is there any concern with over reving with the throttle stop completely out?

Ian

Your CDI box will prevent the bike from over revving.
