Yaka, dont waste your time boreing a TTR. Also I would suggets not to buy a bike to beat a CRF, buy one that you like to most.

Bingo. Start out small and work your way up. Don't buy a bike just because you think it will be fast, buy one that you're going to enjoy, because if you're not having fun the fastest bike in the world won't let you have a good time. A stock TT-R 125 has more than enough power to haul you young guys around, my fiancee has one and we both ride it and love it.

I couldn't agree more.

A fast bike in the hands of a begining rider is going to make learning how to ride smoothly and safely more difficult. In fact I am willing to bet that you can go faster around a track on a less powerful bike then you can on a bike that is above your skill level.

Straight line speed really means nothing when it comes to lap times or woods riding. The only time "Speed" matters is if you are into dirt drags or sand drags.

Size matters

Yaka,
In this case you don't want the biggest or the most horsepower. You wnat a bike that fits you comfortably, handles well and has the power suited to your riding. If you are racing then you better have plenty of experience before you get out there. Ride the trails or practice courses for a while and get the basics of body position dowm pat. Learn cornering and jump positioning to get comfortable on the bike. When you are using you current bike to 110% then look for something in the next step up. I have seen too mant people get the most powerful bike they could just to outrun their friends. After a while of being miserable they either quit or trade the bike in for something more suitable for their riding. Get something you are comfortable on, and that can be ridden in the type of riding you do. the winning will come to you as you progress. Good luck and keep us informed.

Bill

Or they hurt themselves really bad and/or a lot. Bill has given you good advice Yaka, heed it! Give yourself time to learn, because you will have many bikes in your life, but only one life and one body.

Very good advise.

Chances are that you would be just as fast on a track on a TTR125 or a CRF150F than your buddy with the CRF230F. Learning to ride fast is sooooo much easier on a smaller perfectly fitted bike. Don't bite off more than you can chew cause it will only bite you back.

Besides when you get the bigger bike and he still smokes you, you will be pissed. Don't buy any bike for the reason you are suggesting. Buy a bike because it is the one you want, and it fits you and your riding style.

Just a quick example. My buddy has a Raptor and is very inexperienced and I'll bet he could go faster on his Rancher just because he is scared to death of the Raptor. Get what you're comfortable with.
