Holy cow! That is like nothing I've ever seen before.

I'm no engineer, but it seems like their would be many advantages to that design. That frame looks pretty weird too (though that might be what they look like now.. I've never paid that much attention).

My only question might be weight distribution... seems like it might be a little light up front and heavier in the rear.

Is their an article that goes with it or anything to explain what we are looking at?

That appears to be Cannondale to me.

I read their entire patent application years ago. Not to say one of the Japanese companies are not coming in and running them over with their own ideas, though.

Cannondale had one of the most comprehensive patents for motorcycle technologies I have ever run across.

I wonder what the idea of the twisted in a circle muffler, (used to be a head pipe) is?

Maybe that's how they are beating the cannondale patent?

I'd take a guess that this is for length. Alot like the new CRF450R's have the extended header to compensate for the short muffler length. They need the length to keep the exhaust note quiet while making the muffler shorter.

Heard it will probably be later in the year than the usual release in August...maybe October/November-ish.

My local dealer said the inside rumors are a late release date as they want to clear out as many left over 08/09's as possible as they feel no one will want those bikes after the release of the 2010 model. They make it sound so exciting!!

cant wait to se the finaly product

---------- Post added at 07:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:54 PM ----------

you know i was thinking, im not a engineer or anything but, in the past yamahas had a tendancy to push in the center of turns. I would figure that had something to do with front tire traction. My question is with the engine tilted back like that wouldnt that take weight of the front tire resulting in less front end traction. If that was the case would that help furhter the problem with the push.

Now for the record i have a 03 yz250f, one that "pushes" in the turns and i can't even tell when its doing it. I guess my human gyro is not up to par with some of the testers. Just wondering.....

I actually wondered the same thing.

As soon as you ride a bike that doesn't push, you'll know what pushing is. The early CRF's pushed too.

That looks really promising.

A lot of space around the front of the engine too.

I have had many Yamaha YZ's that I purchased when they were first produced and first year of production. The BIGGEST one that comes to mind was the very first YZ400F the shop got in. I have never had an issue with any of them. Yamaha does do much more testing and R&D on a new release than any of the other manufacturers. This new model was ready but not released for the 2009 model year because YMC didn't feel they had enough time testing it and wanted to do more testing and R&D.

Having said all that, anything that has moving parts is subject to potential breakage and problems. It does not matter if it is a Yamaha or a Ford or a Chevy or a washing machine or.........you get the idea.
