I remember a guy on TT talking about changing his 426 plastics to 450 but I believe it was much more intensive then just changing the tank.. If my memory serves me right I believe he had to change the subframe, tank, seat, sidepanels, rad shrounds, and air box. It might be worth some research before you get a tank.

I heard the same thing about changing everything. The '03 stuff is supposed to be lighter, but I don't know if it would be noticeable

Its probably not worth all the extra money to replace all the plastics.

By the way, yamaha250F and i were talking on aim the other day about his motor. His bike is 1yr old, and besides regular oil changes and cleaning the air filter he really hasnt done any work at all to the motor. Since he is going to have the motor apart to swap out cams, he was wondering what other stuff he should do while inside the motor. I was thinking mabye just a new set of rings, mabye a piston and to shim the valves. What do you guys think?

had a buddy do that. just do the shims and check the intake(shims) for wear. But you will have to resuze your exhaust shims forsure.

i'd say at least a set of rings Dell,

as for the tank thing, i think the frame for the 02 is different from the 03, so no go on that. i doubt seriously the weight savings would be noticeable. what you do is: next time some punk on an 03 250f asks smugly "what year is that thing? are ya [i]sssuuuurrrre[/u] you wanna race me against my much better '03??" tell him "oh its an 02, but your goin down hawnkie" and blow him away because you have a 03 250F under 02 disguise

I think some of that weight savings would be the new sub-frame and seat, but you probably wouldn't be able to tell

no big loss of power, no smoke, still starts well...

I think he just wants to make sure he wont have to work on it for at least another year.

When I put the new cam in I may or may not have to re shim but I do want to put a new timing chain in. Is it very hard to do?
