Why 393? MX 757, Garrett Berg was a young man that contributed and posted at Thumper Talk. Com. He owned a YZ426 that he did many modifications to that were the source of helpful aides to many of us and to people around the world. His web site and the memorials at ATM and at TT can be reached from this site in the memorial forum. He had just bought a new YZ 450 last summer when he was killed in September 2002 at San Jacinto Motorsport Park, in Splendora, Texas. Garretts death was reported to all of us on Thumper Talk the night after he was killed. We started to express our sorrow and pain on the initial thread on the YZ 400/426/450 forum. I found out after returning form the MX track witn my son (Madcow393). This evolved into a memorial forum that is overseen (moderated) by his father, Motodad 393. The outpouring of sorrow and love was a source of strength for all of us, especially his family. On 1 December 2002 a memorial race set up by Big Maico393 was held at San Jacinto/Splendora. A group of us traveled form our homes around the country to ride in the race. Pictures of this event can be seen on the memorial forums. We were bonded as only brothers can be and have stayed together by this site(Madman is a race team brother), at rides, email and phone calls since the race. A memorial scholarship fund was established by His father. Please read the posted here and at Thumper Talk to see what a fantastic person Garrett was to all of us. Thanks for asking, it is a privledge to tell someone about Garrett. Respectfully, Bill Barnard After about a week for posts and comments this is being transferred to the GMB memorial forum. BB

Bill, That was perfect and from the heart on what you said. I couldn't of said it any better. I like your suggestion on moving this post to the Memorial forum after a week because I think its very important that people understand what the numbers 393 represents. MX911, I didn't know Garrett personally or about all his great knowledge that he shared about the 426 on Thumper Talk, but Garrett helped several of my riding buddies with fixes for their YZ426's, so that is how I heard about him. I only learned more about Garrett after his accident from reading the post on Thumper Talk. From there I got to know several of the people that I now call my riding brothers and also I learned about ATM from Bill Barnard from a post he left in Garrett's Memorial forum over at TT. Garrett in my mind will always be a great role model for all of us to follow and I am glad to have met and become close friends with his parents and sister and all his close friends that he rode with and knew him. So why do I have the number 393 on my bike and the GMB God Speed stickers on my bike, its because I know that I have a guardian angle watching over me while I ride and to proudly show the appreciation for all the hard dedicated work that Garrett Berg did for all of us and didn't ask anything in return.

I did'nt find out about Garrett until February this year. As I read thru the info on his site and read his dad's farewell letters I was overcome with emotion. Sat in my backyard sobbing and could not get over it. As with all of us that does not happen often, sometimes once in a lifetime. Then I had an opportunity to meet MotoDad (Garrett's Dad) one nite when the Band of Brothers was meeting in Dallas. What a great group of people and Mike Berg is a wonderful person to know. Met Garretts Mom and Sis and I was hooked. I committed to go to the GMB II planning session and met more of the BOB's. Rode with them (too many to name here but growing all the time) at the planning sesson and told them I too would be honored to tack on '393' to my name and bike. They declared that I was a member and should do so immediately...but I cant until GMBII is over and I have ridden with the Band. 393 is already on my bike and has been for 6 months now. Can't bring myself to change TexasDirtNap to TDN393 until I "ride the ride" at GMB II. Then i'll consider myself a member of the Band of Brothers 393 and I will change my name to TDN393. It will be an honor, one I do not take lightly ! I have a theme statement to propose for the GMB II ride. Here it is, what do you think BOB's ? GMBII - "393: Band of Brothers Ride the Ride"

This is totaly amazing. I dont think I've seen anything quite like this before. Its put a few tears in my eye's reading it all. I knew that the motocross camp was a pretty tight knit, and I've come across this time and time again at the track. It's quite awsome. Seeing something like this just knocks me away. The fund will have my 20 bucks, if there are any left. It sounds like they all got ate up! if I'm 601 without the yz450 you'll have my 20. God Bless. -ShawnW

he was good friends with Tim Ferry's mechanic also, and was a co-inventer of the GB carb mod (also known as the BK carb mod, for the initials of Ferry's mechanic) which improved the big yammy thumpers. BTW, it was 343 firefighters in 9/11 not 393. Rob
