Default Today Garrett would have been 21.....

Today….today Garrett would have been 21. I remember his birth like it was yesterday, so vivid and real. I remember Suzette as the labor was long. He was premature by 6 weeks. His beginning in this life was a rough one. What an incredible day this was 21 years ago. Today….today I remember what was and try to deal with what is. It was 197 weeks and 6 days ago that he died. He was my son, my friend, my riding partner and I remain so very proud of him – today I hurt real bad inside.

You see I would have had a beer with him today and told him how proud I am of him and that he had made very good decisions in his life. I would have talked with him about the day he was born and how I felt, how I acted. I would have hugged him at least a couple of times. I would have made him smile and give me that “special look” that only he gave. This is a day that every parent looks forward to, when their kids become an “official adult” – that 21st Birthday. It is almost as if it is a right of passage.

Today…..today I will have that beer with him, but it will be at his grave site. I will cry and tell him how proud I am of him, wishing I had that hug and hopefully I visualize that “special look.” I will tell him about the impact he left in the motocross community and how proud I am of his legacy. I will also tell him that I wish he was still here. Today I remember my son Garrett M. Berg the finest son a man could have asked for.

"Godspeed Garrett - may you rest in eternal peace!"

You have moved me to tears this morning. I cannot imagine the pain of losing your son. No one should ever have to bury one of their children. Take comfort in the knowledge that you will see him again, and that families really are forever. May our Heavenly Father comfort you on this day, and ease your pain just a bit.

Take care,

Mike-

We are all here for you, Mike, some closer than others, but all connected. As you know, I never met Garrett, but I feel that I have grown to know him through you and your wife and daughter. I will also have a beer with Garrett today and thank the good Lord for all the friends that I have made while honoring his memory.

Here's to Garrett.

Default Be proud

For the life of me I cannot remember who is responsible for the below quote. I want to say Roosevelt but...

..."The greatness of a man is not by what he takes with him but, by what he has left behind". We all know what Garrett has left behind.

What you have endured is every parents fear. Please remember that some day we will all meet up with our loved ones again. Although I wish the time I meet up with my father is far from now, I have solice knowing it will happen.

Remember with great fondness the memories of Garrett as those can never be taken from you.

Godspeed.

Happy Birthday Garrett your a fine young Man!

Mike, Suzette & Shannon,

Once again Mike you bring me to tears. Please tell Garrett his spirt lives on as Howard said in another thread here. It lives on in Texas as well as across this great nation and around the world. It is proven day in and day out here on ATM.

I am sorry that you have to live through these days that are so painful. You have made many others fathers lives muche better by sharing your pain. I can't wait to shake your hand and give you and Suzette a big hug in 14 weeks as we gather once again to celebrate the legacy that Garrett left us all. To reaquaint with friends that were brought together by Garrett directly or indirectly. To meet the new friends that will come together because of Garrett.

Mike & Suzette...

As Dane & I get ready to take Jack off to school in 3 weeks, I have done alot of thinking about you all. So many others here are much more eloquent than I and all my thoughts have been put into words by others. Please know your family has a very special spot in ours and our thoughts are with you today and more often than you know.

I don't know what to say, but I think Motoman393 would take his dad riding with him for some one on one time. This is what I see as the bond. The father and son. Roost on Motoman393 you have gave us so much.

I pray that God brings you peace on this truly sad anniversary. I am only sixteen, so no beers for me... I sport two motoman stickers on my pickup & one on my dirtbike. I display them proudly, in Garret's memory. Godspeed.

Mr Berg,

Everyone here can only imagine how painful this is. I for one can't even fathom that I could go on. However, you are an inspiraton to all of us...just like your son Garrett. We all have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for you, Suzette, Shannon and of course...our brother Garrett.

God Speed Motoman393.
