That's a lame link, watch the gate, sweep of the dirt if it's concrete, there about the only 2 things you would take out of it.

Watch this vid and tell me what differances you can see between the riders starts, my boy's use the same technique as no7.

# 7's technique would be correct. feet off the pegs and foreward until time to shift, then bang the shifter on the way up and both feet on the pegs at the same time. when you put your feet on the pegs to early it transfers to much weight back causing you to wheelie and loose control of the front end.

Thats the advantage of both feet down and using the pegs behind the boot, you get your body into a strong position to resist the front wheel pop up. It will also make the bike track straighter out the gate, remember how good Mcgrath was at pulling hole shots, he was the king at it.

you nailed it, i have seen one foot up guy's start well, but not as consistent as the both feet down method.

I never swept the dirt off of a concrete start. I'd sweep it into a mound, behind my rear wheel and pack it into a ramp. I'd back my bike onto the ramp and hold the rear brake. I could start out a gear higher, by slipping the clutch slightly at the start...that also eliminated the chance of fishtailing off the line. I wasn't always the first one over the gate but I was almost always, the first one into the first turn.
