I think the best way is to get a set of Gary Semics DVD's & watch them together, also pick one of them many book on riding/racing. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] You can also see who offers MX schools in your area. Another good idea is if you have a video camera is to take some of him riding & show what he's doing good or bad & discuss it. BTW: Welcome to

Excellent suggestion BigMaico On a broader sense, keep the sport and coaching fun. Don't stress the details too much; be consistent and it will eventually "click". I'm sure you can relate to all kid sports. ....and you definitely don't need to be a rider to be a good MX coach. In some cases, the Dad's that are or have been are the worst coaches

I like all of Maico's and Prag's suggestions, i especially like the photo or video method, and don't be scared to post them on here for the critics to have a look, the more people that see it the more feed back you get. Also i like coaching because as a parent who doesn't come from a racing background, you will learn as much as the child if you listen to everything the coach is telling them. A good coach will encourage the parents to get involved, after all we are the ones who have to try and correct them when they are doing it wrong. I make sure my kids get coached every year just to refresh their memories, and AMA riders probably do the same. Last edited by pjg351; 04-03-2008 at 04:15 AM.

Make it FUN. As a parent who hasn't ridden i suggest you can learn if you consentrate on 3 things. Why do they take that line on the track. What controls should be used and where is the riders body. Video's and coaching schools can help with this. Consider motoX to be half way between Trials and Flat Track while you study the 3 things above.
