When a tire is skinnier, it needs bigger treads to get a bite, which is why it will throw roost farther than a tire with little thread (wider tire).

Same thing.

Skinner = farther roost
Fatter = more roost

Uhh, not necessairly. Its a matter of surface area of tread touching the ground vs. power. I bet that if i hook up a 350 V8 to a set of ATV tires i can get more roost to go farther than your bikes' roost.

Seriously though, how fun would that be...having a 300 horsepower quad. I could throw like a 200 foot long roost; id be dead in 5 minutes

No its probly to do with how tall the tire is, a bike tire is 2 times as high and usually throws twice as high roost than a sport quad. It has to do with the centripital force im guessing. BTW i have tested this with a quad with razr 2 tires which have the same size tred as bikes do. The taller tire keeps the mud rotating up to a higher angle while the the quad tire picks up more mud it is short and doesnt throw it as far up therefore it dont go as far . Just my opinion.

This is a great thread. When I'm racing, my main concern is always centered upon my roost. I always like seeing the little clods pepper the guys behind me.

I figure TheRooster just dredged this one up because he did a search on "roost". Can we move on now? Don't want to step on anyone's toes here but Jake and Greg sound like compadres with a bone to pick.

I actually did 0 research on it. If I don't know it, then I won't answer it, simple as that. But okay, you don't have to believe me.

And no, I do not have "a bone to pick", as you may think. I'm just here, trying to answer peopls questions to the best of my ability, as often as I can.

If somebody questions my answer, I will have back-up information for them. That is what I said in that last post, was back-up info.
