1) Getting my bike and my son's bike out of the truck bed without dropping them on myself, then back into the truck after the ride
2) Not looking like a "has-been observed trials rider who now rides a dirt bike"
3) Not looking like my 6 y.o. son can ride better than me

No footers and a hand off the bars I think are the best for newbies. Maybe for old guys too, cuz that's about all I can do ha ha. I did do a gnarly whip, and I mean GNARLY whip Sunday. I did not mean to do it at all. I had to stop after that and get my heart rate down. I would love to learn how to do a scrub or a good whip.

Yeh an accidental whip on a bike is one thing but when you do it in a xc race on a quad it's a whole nother relm of shock, I came around a corner in the mx section and hit the jump crooked I guess but I sure did notice it

I was at the dunes once where there was a freestyle ramp setup for anyone to try. I was watching these 2 guys pulling off some pretty sick tricks. I thought how hard could it be to just jump the thing normally? Then I saw a guy try it, went really nose high, stomped the back brake killing the engine but saving his ***!! then landed barely making it with a humongous roar from the crowd!!! (I decided not to try it.)

Let's just say......I have issues with Pastrana so my opinion is totally negative, on anything to do with him or his sideshow antics.

In general, though....a lot of us worked terribly hard, for a very long time and put up with a huge amount of crap, trying to legitimize Motocross in the eyes of the general public, the media and the "sports world". It seems that our dream was finally becoming a reality and we were finally being recognized as "athletes", participating in a "real sport"....then came the "freestyle mx" clowns.

I respect their stuntman skills but just because they use mx-based bikes, that doesn't give them the right to associate their (alleged) sport, with Motocross. A clicker over the finishline jump is cool, it's Motocross tradition but performing repetitive, speed-robbing, whateverbatic tricks....that ain't Motocross, that's just slow.

r u serious???

man, the fist pump is the most hardcore and O.G of all freestyle tricks, its a simple pump of the fists while u are in the air,( take both ur hands of the bars if u dare)

and the brake tap, well u find a big jump and while in the air, u touch the rear brake pedal with ur right hand, i think thats how it goes?

some of the older guys on here might explain the brake tap a bit better, my version is a little extreme.

You'd kill yourself if you try to reach the rear brake pedal with one of your hands
during a huge jump. I think you meant your right foot.

EDIT: for newbie tricks.. Start with the no-footer. Practice that trick for a month or so.. then move up to a Nac-nac or a Heelclicker on a jump you're most comfortable with...
