XRs are long stroke motors. This means the piston travels longer up and down the bore as compared to a CRF. The longer the stroke, the greater the inertia the piston creates so they aren’t happy being pinned. The CRFs have a short stroke so they rev higher and come on quick. The good parts about long stokes engines is the develop their power smoothly and are very tractable, plus they last longer with fewer maintenance issues than their high revving brethren. Great for trial riding and enduro type riding. The CRFs require a more dedicated maintenance schedule that includes frequent top end teardowns as compaired to the XRs.

A wr 200 is a two stroke; the XR is a four stroke. The WR stands for "wide ratio" which means there is a greater difference between gears than the close ratio on the YZ, YZF, CR or CRF. This wide ratio allows for a low first gear for climbing and a high fifth gear that allows you to cruse down the road a a nice clip. The YZ... would have its gearing much closer for track riding where you adjust for the overall track conditions by changing sprockets. The WR has much less maintenance than the CRF or the YZF, easy to work on, high revving, more overall horse power than its four stroke counterpart, but in turn, lower gas mileage. You will also need to premix your fuel and will need to do a bit more clutch slipping with the two stoke as apposed to the four stroke due to the lack of bottom end torque.
