Default Won't Idle

Just thought this tip might help someone else.

Last month a friend that has an XR 250 started having problems with his bike missing and backfiring some. We took apart the carb and cleaned it all up, added a new plug but still, same problem. Normally XR's are next to impossible to break but this had us all stumped. We tried emptying the tank and adding some ofmy high dollar race gas but still got the same responce. Finally, after 2 weeks of tinkering, a friend of mine decided to take the wires apart and spray WD40 on all contacts coming from the ignition. Bingo! Problem solved. Moral of the story is, try taking apart the connectors and put electric grease on them because they can and obviously do corrode.

Keith.....
Loose header flanges will also make the XR's backfire on deceleration. If that happens, just replace the copper flange rings.

Thanks for your input, Mainjet2001 and welcome to the board! You are correct about the loose header flange causing it backfire. This is caused by loss of exhaust back pressure through the gasket which makes it run a little lean.
