Default tranny oil 2008 crf450r ????

just drained the tranny oil on my new 08 and it was tan in color. after having an 03 crf, i was expecting red 85wt tranny oil to come out. because it was tan and looked like normal motor oil, i imediately opened up my manual and to my surprise, they have changed the specs and are calling for 10-30wt motor oil.

my question is, what are you guys using and what have you found to be the best product to protect the functions of the tranny and enhance the tranny's performance?

i didn't have any 10-30wt on hand before my ride yesterday, so i put in maxima tranny 80wt oil and i totally noticed, it seemed tougher to shift, obviously because of the thicker oil.

thx guys!

hmm, 10w30 might be pretty tough to come by with all the friction modifiers removed. I'd guess honda brand oil will work but too much money.

Very interesting for sure. I would personally try some 10w40 and see how it goes.

When I picked up my '08 they threw in 2 quarts of Honda tranny oil and 2 quarts of Honday full synthetic for the motor, I am only on my first change so I can't comment really.

However my plan is to run Amsoil when I run out of the Honda stuff.
