i am no expert on a rattle there...have you tried adjusting the cable slack?-and if this makes it go away-i`d still wanna find out more info-a factory service manual sure comes in handy and wish i had one for all my bikes...i disconnected the decompression cable on my yamaha xt250-and it caused me no grief-and it worked fine when i hooked it back up after much riding...it just makes it a little harder to kick over-but gives more stroke to the kick...it also causes more strain on the kick lever and shaft...i`d suggest washing the motor, tear off the cover and check it out...and while you got it tore apart-checking valve clearances and inspecting cam wear can spare alotta heartache-that`s my 2 cents worth

Could it just be it's cold and doesn't get oil? If it only does it when it's cold I really wouldn't worry about it. But then again, you'll have to make that call since I have no idea what it sounds like?
