Default Pay To Play

Only one week and I'm bummin...can't ride

OK gang, before I take it to the shop and take it in the @#$ let's make sure I did the best with your suggestions in my last post

The shift lever doesn't recoil back to the middle...so I have to tap it down each time to shift gears. It does go into to all the gears, just impossible to ride well

So I drained the oil and put in fresh...nothing

I drove around hoping it would work itself out as suggested...nuttin

Removed the clutch side cover and inspected. Not sure I did this part correctly. I removed the round cover (right side opposite of the shift lever) where the clutch attaches. seemed weird to look there because no view of where the spring attaches to shaft for shift lever. but saw nothing. EXCEPT so chips in the metal towards the center of the house. that can't be good. but probably unrelated?

any other thoughts

is your clutch dead? shift fork? maybe some chipped teeth on the gears themselves?

No it's mostly the shift mechanism. once you tap the lever back in position it shifts fine

you only took off the quick access clutch cover. you need to take off the whole side cover. on the bottom left corner you will see the shift shaft. there is a spring on it there. you will need to take off the clutch basket first though to get to it.

that's where to look.

depends?

one 12mm bolt for the kickstarter, then pull off kickstarter, drain radiator remove hose to water pump, then about 10 or so 8mm bolts and the cover slides off.
you may not need to take the clutch off to get to the shift shaft, which is more than likely the culprit.

the ? is what's an afternoon and a little work worth to you.
there are alot of online sources to get an exploded diagram of the engine, so you can see what goes where.

You can handle it, it really isn't that involved like yardpro said.

Just set aside a Sunday afternoon or something and take your time. You can handle it.
