Default Oil leaking / Coolant weeping

I have a 2003 CRF450 and while I was riding i noticed quite a bit of what appeared to be oil coming out of what looks like a drainage hole in the right side of the motor. What causes this? Is it normal? And if not, what corrective action should I take??

In addition I have some coolant that weeps from the water pump sometimes, a friend of mine told me that his CRF did the same thing and not to worry about it but????

Thanks for any and all insight.

You might of put a little to much oil in it and spit it out.

The the coolent leaks are you sitting in one spot, Most fourstokes will do it when sitting and getting no air.

Thanks alot! I will check that....I need to change the oil anyways and i will make sure that there is the right amount in the engine. I bought it off a friend and he had just redone the top end so he may have just put too much in.

And about the coolant, yes it is when i'm stopped not when riding. So that sounds like it is the culprit!!

Thanks alot for your help, if anyone else has any idea about the oil leak i'd like to hear it, but i will repost to see if checking the oil lever fixes it.

Thanks again!!

are u talking about the hole next to ur water pump? if so then more than likely ur impeller shaft is worn and needs replacing, with new seals also.
the impeller shaft gets little grooves in it over time, from the seals, and thats when they start letting oil and water out.

JD is right, sounds like it's leaking out the weep hole for the water pump!

I had the same problem on my 2003 CRF450, and it required a new shaft to fix it.

Their is also a new impeller that I believe they came out with in 2005 or 2006 that has a hole in it that will help the seals seal better, so you don't have the problem again.

The newer version will bolt right onto the shaft as well. I bought the new seals (inner and outter) new shaft, and new impeller and it wasn't leaking when I sold it a few years later. Easy job to do as well.
