Default needin more power and bottom end

my buddy has a 91 xr 250L and in all the books that i have looked at the biggest rear sprocket is the 42! so i was wondering would a xr 250r sprocket inner change with the 250L? he has no bottom end pretty much at all, it runs pretty well but he also needs more power. i think it has a super trap exaust but he thinks thats the only one that comes for it..so basically i need to know if the xr 250r inner changable with the xr 250L?
Thanks
Jerm

I would think so for the most part. I think the 250L just pretty much came with turn signals and DOT tires for road use and a tag plate for your license plate. I am sure the rear sprocket will fit. The stock XR250R rear sprocket is a 48 tooth...they gave the 250L the 42 for more topend speed since you need it on the road..but bottom-end will suffer alot with a 42 versus the 48..give a combo of 13/48 a shot.

Take the sprockets off the L and compare to the sprockets from the R. If all lines up and you won't get any rubbing or undue wear try it.

Also the bikes gearing (internal) are much different ratios from the "R" version, which also plays the important part about the low-end power struggle at low speeds off-road.
