crf250r vs crf450r

how much faster is the crf450 then the crf250

has anybody riden both and can say that its a jump or not that big

Theres a night and day difference between the CRF250 and 450. The most obvious is that the 450 is going to have a ton more power.

ok i know they have to have more power but i figured out with dyno sheets off the internet and i figured out the hp to weight and it comes out as the 250r is 4.1 pounds per horse power and the 450 is 3.8 pounds to hp now i know its faster bigger more power but is it a huge jump

For MX I would prefer the 450, but for woods, the 250.

IMO though, I have owned both.

I have ridden both. The jump is huge. Huge. Nothing a guy can't deal with. But it's enough that you will learn to respect the power very quickly.

yup, the jump is huge. Both have there place, but yes, the jump is pretty massive. I'm just going out on a limb here, but are you in a war with a guy that has a 450 and gonna race him? If your the one with the 250, don't do it LOL

Josh Grant (250f) came real close to beating Kevin Windham(450f) on a 250f.

ok thanks everybody i think i just need to ride them both and see. by watching them on my local motocross track it really doesnt look like the 450 is any faster but i dont know the riders skill changes thaat just as much as the size of the bike.

yep, I have owned and raced both and it's a significant difference in power, weight and handling and all. You are right on in that you should ride them both back to back and see for yourself if you feel comfortable on a 450.

compare lap times if you can get someone to help you. Run 5-6 laps on each and see how lap one compares to lap 5. SOme may turn a single lap faster on a 450 but are not able to maintain it.
