Default CRF150F running problems

My wife's '03 CRF150F has been sitting for about 2 months while we were traveling. I got it out today and cannot get the thing to stay started. Last time I rode it around I noticed that getting on the throttle really quick caused the bike to bog hard enough to kill the motor. As long as the throttle was smoothly applied, it did fine. This time it starts, revs high, and then bogs out. I would normally think the carb is out of whack, but we rode the bike for several months before this problem started and I haven't changed anything on the bike.

Thoughts?

Thanks

You might pull the carb bowl off after draining the gas, make sure there isn't any build up in the main jet or pilot.

Hope you figure it out. Good luck

Ok. New description. I replaced the gas and i can get it to start and run as long as the RPMs are up. It's like there's not enough gas flowing, now. After it dies, i have to use the choke to get it started again.

Definitely sounds like you need to have a look at the carb. If it sat for a bit with gas in it, the jets could be gummed up. I'd take Rip's advice and start there.

I took the float bowl off and cleaned the slow jet. There's a plastic bell shaped piece that was around the slow jet that came off and i can't get it back on. What is that and how do i get it back on?

Not that I can help you, but this diagram may help explain it to others?

Hey Osh..them gurls are smarter than they make out.

That little bell fits up onto the upper housing and the tabs on the end fit only 1 way over the casting (upper housing). The bell tabs (item 16) should hold the bell onto the casting. If it falls off and won't stay on the casting, you can gently run a piece of .020 lockwire around the tabs to hold it on the casting.
Remember that the tabs only go on one way and you cannot rotate it on the casting when it's in the correct position.
The same setup is also on an XR400 carb. and I had the same problem with the bell at one time.

You can also gently bend the tabs inward but it's tricky as the plastic can bust if it's old.

Hope this helps.

I used hot water to loosen up the plastic and bent the tabs in slightly. It's not quite as secure as before but i think it's fine.

I cleaned the jets and bowl with carb cleaner and the bike runs well now. It still bogs when I lay on the throttle too quick, but at least is runs.
