im about to pick up the 08 crf450r and im wondering exactly how to break it in. the guy at the dealer ship says that running it easy for for about a full tank of gas should be alright..also said to run a higher octane for the first tank also. im not exactly sure what octane to run it at (comin from a 2 stroke where i ran the highest octane possible). i also read in a forum that a guy changed his oil every hour or so till he broke his in. anyone have an opinion on the right way to break it in.

Oh, and I used normal super-unleaded period (break-in, and normal riding).

thanks for the link to that article. ill prolly start out runnin it easy and open it up more and more during the day. judging by the power of other 450s iv'e rode, even if i dont do it exactly right and dont get the most power out of it, it will still be more then i will ever need.

I used that method to break in my 04 yzf when i bought it new and it ran strong for almost 4 years requiring no motor work. That's riding almost every weekend. It works, I am sure of it. The first few times you take it to the track though, make sure you ride it easy for at least 3 laps at the beginning of the day to ensure the bike is completely warmed up. Then open her up and ride like normal. Also for the first 3 rides, be sure to use regular non-synthetic oil, and change it after every ride.

after its broke in, about how many rides should i wait before changing the oil. with my 2 stroke, i change every 2 to 3 rides, riding about 3 hours a day once a week.

Trust me, the good thing is you won't be able to control yourself. You'll give it some juice just because your right hand won't let you not
