im wanting to buy upgrades for my 02 CRF450R. looking into the Boyesen Quick shot 2 accelerator pump cover and the scary fast power now. im not buying both right away so i was wondering if anyone has any input on what they have used and what they thought. what had to be done to make it run good after installed? thx

I run a QS 2 on my CRF250R. It runs really well, no bog, starts well, but I also know the drill as far as cold starts and all. I dont know how much it has to do with it running stronger but I mainly did it to improve starting and it did. I also run a Dr. D and adjustable fuel screw and feel I have the fuel screw dialed in perfectly too.

Does your bike have a bog issue, or are you looking for power gain mods? The QS2 is designed to cure the dreaded FCR bog, however in some cases it will not make much difference as the bog may be jetting related not AP pump related. I have the PowerNow on my bike, made no real noticable difference. |

yeah im looking to get a little more snap on the throttle and get rid of the bog without losing top end power. its not bad but i come from only riding 2 strokes to this and its an annoying noticible difference. my girlfriends 02 CR250R has more snap and better throttle response then my 450 and i cant have that when im the one doing the work on the bikes and have been riding a lot longer. i currently have a full pro circuit exhaust and im looking for some good upgrades without boring it because i take it to the track and am looking to racing it some.

the qs 2 is supposed to improve throttle response. I only rode the 250f a couple hours before I put it on but I will say the bike is pretty snappy for a CRF250F, no hesitation. I just wonder if the engine needs rebuilt being an 02. A new hi comp piston might be a fairly inexpensive mod for u.

Providing that a bike is running clean the best bang for your buck on any mod is sending the supension out to be redone. Period.

cant argue that, especially on a 450 because 50 HP is usually plenty for most humans, RC and Bubbare not human. lol I had my suspension revalved for my weight and lack of ability on my last 3 race bikes. But I thought you were just talking engine mods. I also have to admit I was surprized you felt the 450 did not have enough snap and therefore thought maybe it was time for a rebuild. I know you came off a 2 stroke and you have to keep in mind that's a whole different type of power. 4 strokes are not supposed to be THAT (2 T) snappy but you probably know that.

I'm with Joe on this one. I rode a friends 450 and It was quite odd for me. Not a bad thing but the 4t's are just not my thing. I'm sure I would love it on a long ride but the "rush" of blowing through a berm was just not there. The 450's have a huge amount of power but it's more "useable" and a "roll on the throttle" type power. Way different then the 2t's. I put the QS in my wifes crf250 when we first bought and honestly...I'm not really sure it was the best decision. I think jetting it did more for the bog then anything. -Kevin-

the suspension has already been redone. my roommate used to race and helped me out with it. i know the 4 stroke isnt going to be as snappy as a 2 stroke but i can get it better because it does have that 4 stroke bog. 50 hp isnt enough for me i come from riding a CR500 bored 60 over with high compression and built to the hilt. the more power the better. but right now im just looking to get rid of that 4 stroke bog

I would be more inclined to use the R&D Powerbowl rather than the boysen.

Do you have an adjustable fuel screw with the knob so you can adjust it when its on the stand. I use one from zip ty racing but there are a few out there for about $20. I would start there if you dont have one and see if you can work out the bog before spending too much. I adjusted both depending on temps on my 04 CRF450 and my current 250F and always got the bog out without rejetting. It's the opposite of the air screw on your 2 strokes. if that does not work maybe a JD jet kit. |
