Ok so right now i have the option to get a Crf250r 04 under these contiitions. -that the owner brings it into a shop to make it worth $3.000. he wants nothing less. Or Shoulld i hold out a little and get a crf450r, there were some 450s 03 04, i saw that were sellen 3200 3400, 4000. Yeahs i herd that a 450 is a big bike, over kill, but i guess its what anybody prefers and does, i live in flat lands, and almost always go to sand dunes every year. Right now both bikes seem ok to me. I WANT YOUR PERSONAl OPINAION! o and i just relized i posted in the wrong section. i didnt see it. Last edited by Dutch; 09-30-2007 at 12:42 AM.

If you're riding dunes, I vote for the 450. I ride a 250F and LOVE it, but I race MX and X-Country. (Tight trees and ditches and stuff.)

The 250 is a great bike in any color. My advice is to ride both and go from there. I'm fat so I have to have the 450

Get the 450! I am 5'8, 190 pounds, my friends all said get the 450, I said its to much bike for me, so I bought a crappy TTR 230, then I got a 426, still not enough, riding a brand new 08 yz450 and its awesome!!!! Besides, two smokers to take to much energy to ride, you always gotta be on the gas, its not smoothe. BUT! Top ends cost more on thumper, they are harder to do, where as a two smoke is rather easy to change the piston and rings and the kits are usually 100 bucks. BUt I love my thumper

They should have spell check for forums for people like me. Everyone I talk to say the 450 is just too crazy. I am still willing to consider it if it’s at least controllable. But as for gearing what does first gear on a 450 compared to the 250. Um, what I mean is if the 450 is in first and some what screaming, what gear does the 250 need to be in to keep up. BBBBUUUTTT, I guess ill really never understand you guys through letters, so I might as well just go ride one, but MORE INPUT!

My personal opinion, go with the 450, you'll want the extra power for the sand. Or either that, a 250 2 stroke. |

I'd go with the 450 if you dont plan on racing anytime soon (or even if you do actually...) The 450 will have less maintinance, and be more reliable. Also, there is no replacement for displacement. With a 450 a smile is just a flick of the wrist away. Sure you cant ride it wide open everywhere like a 250f, but for the average person its easier to go faster, especially if you are riding in open areas like you say.

You can't go wrong either way. depends on what you are after really. I'm 39, 6'00, 185-190 B vet rider just for comparison purposes. I've had 250f, 450's, Honda and Yamaha and a yz250. Post injury I wasn't riding the YZF450 very hard and had a little trouble on tight turns so I just dropped back down to a new 07 crf250r. First 250F I raced mx with in 4 years. I love the thing. It's way fun. I added one tooth to the rear sprocket and just recently a QS 2. I can run harder longer with fewer mistakes and turn better corners on the 250F. The power is a little weak at times coming out of corners with short runs at jumps or hills. but I have learned to shift more and keep the rpm's and momentum up the more I ride/race it. The 450 owns the straights and if I make a mistake and lose momentum I can often still get a jump on a 450. But I feel more relaxed and have more fun right now on the 250F. This past weekend I raced +35 at So. Fork. We had 8 guys in the class. this was the break down. I'm friends with all the guys but 8th place who I just don't know yet so I know the bikes. Actually 2nd was my boys bike I loaned my buddy, lol. anyway, It was more about rider than bike. 1st Husky 250 2t. 2nd crf250R 3rd crf250r (me) 4th crf250r 5th YZF 450 6th RM125 7th RMZ450 8th YZF450. good luck and have fun. joe
