Default Best XR Honda ever made?

Just bought a mint 96 XR400. I love it and only wish I could make it street legal to ride to off road areas. Curious as to what people think is the best XR Honda ever made and why. Opinions?

that one is a very good one. i have an xr250 that isnt too much like it was stock that I really like. I had a couple of xr600's that I did little to other than a bigbore kit, carb cam and pipe etc. never had the 400 but thought it would be pretty perfect to blend them both.

I had an 04 XR 400. I loved that thing for trail riding, the nastier and tighter the better for that thing. Back in PA most of the mountain trails were rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Between the soft suspension and the weight that thing couldn't be stopped. I miss it!

UPRKX....
This is my 96 XR400 in a 99 race. I think it's the best but my son would tell you the XR600 was the best. If you just take care of the oil and air cleaner it will last a long time. Over 7 years I changed the wheel bearings and swing arm bearings but never had the head off and it had a ton of miles on it.
You won't be sorry....

Some times, you can get a street license in a neibor state. I live in California and my CRF250 X is licensed in Arizona....dual residence.

I have this rifle that i am not exactly bonded to (338 win/browning A bolt) and there is this guy out in willow that i understand through a third party would be willing to part with a lower time xr400 for such a rifle. pretty tempting to make two of us happy :-)

Mr Main likes the XR4.... I'm shocked and slightly taken aback...

I liked the xr650 best...just so darn heavy. Pretty partial to the xr250 myself, but that's purely sentimental since it was my first dirtscooter.

i think i want them all for some reason. yes Leroy, if this guy bites on my rifle i will certainly take the charity. heck, i ought to just go give him his 800 and keep the rifle. i was really looking for an excuse to get the xr400 and then go buy the same caliber in a remington.

Question 2001 XR 400 stall

I just bought a 2001 XR 400 and it tends to have a "flat spot/stall" when I quickly give about 1/4 throttle. It already has a 160 main jet & 60 slow jet, snorkel removed from air box and the stock exhaust tip is drilled-out. Anyone know how to fix the "flat spot/stall" ?

Well i dont know if its the best XR ever made but i love the crap out of the XR650R'S. I had one and after i sold the first one i regretted it and finally finished building up my second 2003 XR. The 650 is my favorite wide open dualsport weapon. The big XR is also one hell of a wheelie machine and dam near bullet proof to boot....
