MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE KAWISUKI HAS VALVE AND HEAD PROBLEMS AND THE HONDA MAINLY HAS EXSPLODING PISTONS BUT MAINLY ON RIDERS WHO HOLD THEM ON THE REV LIMITER ALL THE TIME

I'm surprised to hear that on an X. You do need to check and adjust them though. Ignore them and you'll pay for it.

he checked them 800 miles, and they wre at spec , at 1200 he checked them and all but the right intake were at spec, the bad one was -.004. After adjusting the valve, the bike, started and seem to run fine. The bad valve is losing clearance at about .001” per hour of ridding

He may want to check with the dealer and see if there's any chronic problems with them might just be a honda thing..... LOL

First the dealer said it was dirt geting by the air filter, then they told him he was over reving it riding it on the streat/highway,(he has it streat leagal) but we figured it out if he is doing 65 MPH he is runing at 8000-9000 rpms which is not over reving it, honda is dening that there is even a problem.

Good grief. I would have thought with the cooled down cam lob profiles, they wouldn't have any problems with the valves. Are the valves on the X Ti? The cure after they go to 0 is usually SS valves with new springs.

That's pretty weak. As for valves. Kibblewhite makes some for the R's, and Ron Hamp (www.ronhamp.com) may have some up his sleeve as well.

I can only add this not being a Honda owner but working on one. My neighbor who rides the 450 had problems chasing the clearances after every ride/race with stock valves and springs. He races very hard and fast so it was more of a problem for him than the average trail rider. The problem was the stock springs. He now runs springs that are dbl springs and SS valves. No trouble at all he checks them after every race. I would suggest that if you are experiencing this problem you change springs immediately I have a feeling it will cure your problem.

I clean my air filter after everyother ride. I also change my engine oil almost every other ride. I use Bel-Ray filter oil, stock Honda oil filters and Mobil 1 15w-50 red top oil. I have never had to adjust the valves and I have aound 80-100 hours on the bike. Maybe lucky, maybe its maintence....maybe my bike was put together on a Monday morning after the whole factory learned of their yearly raise???

| No, Shifting, it is because you are a decent guy who helps others, maintains his motorcycle meticulously, and keeps Faded interested in motorcycles while he is busy building his new home. Quote:

Well I guess that I havent had many problems at all with mine. Although......I had an intake valve get to tight and couldnt be shimmed to tolerance. So.....I had Kibblewhite Valves and spings installed in my head by Eric Gorr. While it was down, I put in a new Wiseco piston and rings. The bike runs so nice now. I can start without ever choking it and goes right to idle without warming up. It purrs like a kitten ( lion). So, this was my choice to do the work and the bike never stopped running good. It has always started fine and never given me any trouble. It was a very easy job to do the things I did and anyone with any mechanical knowlege could easily rebuild one of these engines.

My valves went out of spec after a year and a half. Left intake went to 0. The left exhaust was fine and the other 2 were in need of a new shim. I never had any problems starting or anything, but I decided to check them one day. I have shimmed them and will check them again in awhile. The stiffer springs and ss valves are the way to go from everything I have read.
