2004 crf450r exhaust question

I am trying to buy a new exhaust for my bike because my head pipe is crushed in so I figured this would be a good time to make a new purchase for an old bike. My question is will an exhaust from a 2005 crf450 fit on the 04. I know they aren't supposed to but has anyone tried this. The reason I am looking into this is because there aren't any good looking exhaust systems for the 04 in my opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hmm, I actually do not believe it will. If memory serves me correctly the '04 was a one off year -- similar to the '03, but better. In '05 they came out with the 4th gen frame (I think it was 4th gen), so now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the '05 will not fit the '04 -- but I've been wrong before.

I know the frames are different, I have an 05 and my 04 sitting in my garage and from looking at them the only difference that I can see is the mounting point for the mid pipe. On the 04 it mounts on the sub frame and on the 05 it mounts on the frame right above the peg. But other than that I can't see any difference so I am wondering if I can get the 05 exhaust and just grind off the mount from the mid pipe and re weld it in the proper spot. So basically I just need to know if the shape and routing of the exhaust is the same.

Not sure, but the header pipe is Titanium, so unless you can weld titanium, moving the mount might not be quite as easy.

The only one who can answer this question is you. measure it and see.
