Default 1984 XL/XL 250 interchangeable parts.

Question:

Will the XL 250 valve cover fit on an XR 250 of the same year( 1984 )

The part numbers are slightly different:
XL250 - 12311 KKO 000
XR250 - 12311 KKO 305

Will these interchange?
Or will I need to change the cylinder head and cover on the XR 250 with the XL 250?

Any advice would be great!!

Thanks
Steve

Ok done a bit more research:
Here is the deal I made a mistake the part numbers are almost te same except that one is 12311 KK0 305 and the other is 12311 KK1 305
The head gaskets are the same... So why is one KK1 and the other KK0 ????

The previously stated part numbers are for the same part ( obviously one part number replaces the other but only the 305 and 000 at the end had changed.

Ah dangit! So then the head is different ( by part number ) too..... Meaning it wouldn't work....damn!

---------- Post added at 04:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:50 AM ----------

So here is the deal:
Got an offer on a little fixer up.....only thing is it need a head plus rockers etc what are the chances that a head I found on flebay ( brand new nos ) which is for the XL 250 would bolt on and work? I suppose I could always guine pig it and see.....

Anyone know a good parts wrecker that I could get a hold of that might be able to help?

I don't think you would have any problem with the heads switching. Cams and rockers did for a long time etc. the two carbed head switches out with the four etc

Ok so essentially I would be looking at changing the head to an XL250 same year and the cylinder head cover would be a matching year to the cylinder head?

In the 250's all I have on hand is the XR stuff to compare to. The bikes did have different compression ratios. That may be the only real difference in the heads.

Well I've done some digging and it looks like I have found a few savage yards with some second hand parts.... Rumour has it that there are some shop in Adelaide with NOS parts for the bike....anything ranging from new head, rocker cover/box, cylinder etc etc ....
Picking up the bike in two weeks! With tear the motor down and have a look to see what is really going on in there

I have an extra rocker cover in need of at least two rocker arms. I bet it will go right on. I was in the parts business for a pretty long time. Parts with the same numbers interchange. Different numbers do not necessarily mean they won't interchange. V

I fitted a nos XL250R cylinder head on my 85 XR250. The only difference is the XL one was red and the inlet ports are smaller on the XL version. I had to use a flapper wheel and enlargen the inlet ports to the same size as the XR's ports and then paint it black.
