Default 03 CRF 450 Carb Issues!

Hey guys, well the crf has been pretty good to me so far by not needing much work. but i've got 2 blown out fork seals which will be fixed this week. But one thing that's bugging me is the carb.. i thought i had it dialed in until one of the knobs got bumped or something set it out from where it was.. i've got the aftermarket flex-fuel screw on it for fine tuning. but it seems to start up a LOT easier without the fuel screw even in it?? when i have the fuel screw set in, it is turned out almost all the way, about 1/2 turn to 1 turn from being all the way out. i've started the bike up without the fuel screw in it and it starts up very easy hot or cold, but right when i put the fuel screw in (without screwing it in at all) the idle drops instantly and normally bogs out in a few seconds.

is this just an issue where i need to adjust my idle and fuel screw? turning up the idle so that having my fuel screw in won't bog out the motor? thanks for any help guys! I'm really trying to get this bike running perfect before heading off to college at BYI-Idaho in Rexburg in 12 days! with St. Anthony's 15 minutes away.. this bike will be getting used plenty!! Already geared it down for more top end, flushed the coolant and replaced it with engine ice, and am swapping out the knobbie for a paddle tire! Just need to get those seals fixed and get this carb running smoother and i am set!!

I would pull the carb and give it a good cleaning, and make sure your air filter is clean too.

I would also suggest checking your valves if the carb doesn't show anything.

Hey woody! I got it by tweaking the idle and fuel screw. Idling and running really good down here in Idaho at about 4500'. I think I checked my valves just prior to the original post or just after. Luckily they were all within spec
