Default Cleaning throttle or clutch cables?

Does anyone have any trick's on cleaning the inside of clutch or throttle cables, to remove dirt. I have heard that there might be some tool or attachment that will do the job.

A few shots of WD-40 after every couple of rides works wonders.

Not sure what's available on your side of the world Pete, but you should be able to get them through any mail-order place.

If you can't find one, let me know, I'll pick one up for you at the local shop and send it over snail mail.

I just up a couple of sites here in Aus, so i will try them first. There also might be another type that works under some type of pressure cleaning method, so i will check that out too!

I use a cable luber that I got at Cycle Gear for $6, and then use WD40 to flush out the goop that was in there before. You have to have the straw on any aerosol with the luber, and if you shorten it, it works better (doesn't pop out).

After cleaning the cable out with WD40, then I use brake cleaner and let it dry. After that, Dupont Dry teflon lube is the best (and final) lube. It doesn't attract dirt like chain lube and makes for a near-effortless cable action.
