You know....there are ALOT of things I would like to say here, and I have been reading Ask Ping for the last hour so if you can just imagine.....

I will however be nice and just simply say that with the right gearing...yes it could.

honestly, it would probably max around the same, but who cares, you'll never reach it doing any recreational riding

I have the same bike as yours, an 02 YZ250 with an FMF Fatty pipe and an 11 oz. flywheel weight. My gearing is a bit lower than stock and right now my bike will only go around 65-70 mph. Now when it had a 14/49 gearing it went closer to 75-80mph. I know that my bike is probably not as tricked out as your bike, but I doubt that your bike will go too much faster unless you have like 15/45 gearing done to it, and if that is the case I would probably be done with the mile before reached 5th gear. But really buddy, does it really matter. Just be thankful that you have a freind to ride with that has as nice of a bike as yours. Also, if you really want to get down to it, even though your freinds bike is a couple years newer, your bike is more refined than his. They havent done much changing to the CR250 since 01 I believe. (I could be wrong though).

Its not even about that. Its about: are you berming those turns at 2miles/hr or at 20?

Exacally.. I ride pretty much just for fun since i dont have time to race at this point in my life but i ride the trails with my friends (whom do race) and I can blow them away on the straight aways/semi-opened up trails because my CR250 is a lot faster than their bikes but when we get on tight trails where theres a lot of turns, it's game over for me.

But as for the original question my CR250 will do about 78 MPH (~125KPH) altho i have a lot of extras on mine aswell I also have it geared down a lot to be more useful for my riding style, aswell as I'm a pretty big guy (234 pounds), I'm sure if one of my smaller friends rode this even as is it would go a little faster but the way it's setup is more than adequate for me.

Stock I dont think these bikes would reach what your friend says his does, but as said with the right sprockets, addons ect. I could definatly see this possible.

i dont believe his cr will do 160. my newly rebuilt 99 cr 250 will pass cars at high way speed but not by too much 125-135km/h maxed out.

just for those guys who are accusing of honda of not changing the cr 250 that much its because they got it perfect that year. it was named bike of the year in 2001 in almost every single popular riding magazine out there. i have one and i love it, theres no way im ever going to sell it
