Default (Noobee)Trouble starting sons 49CC Pocket dirt bike

Guys ,

I just bought my 5 year old son a 49cc Pocket dirt bike ( not the best quality ) but its his first bike and I wanted something cheap for him to start out on , the only thing is I am having a heck of a time starting it . It is furnished with a pull start and I yanked on it about 100 times and it would not start. I have the correct fuel to oil ratio 50:1 , I checked the spark plug it was a bit fouled from the first ride but I since cleaned it and reinstalled it (still "no dice") . Cleaned the air filter , buggered around with the mixing screw (nothing) . I am totally new at this but willing to learn , I am determined to solve this problem on my own without having to bring it in to a shop , guys where should I start ? any advise would be greatly appreciated , thanks in advance .

Check the kill switch. Heard they can sometimes stick and ground out. Just a thought. You try bump starting it?

Even when jetted correctly those bikes are trouble when trying to start, it gets better after break-in. ...and don't kill yourself cranking it or you'll break the starter prawl (don't ask ). Use a NEW plug and freshER gas (with a little less pre-mix oil (lean side?). Give her another few cranks and it should do the trick. From your note, I assume you started it before.

Oh yeah this site will come in handy too [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

.....I'm the neighborhood expert on these junkers (not really by choice)

Thanks Guys ,

I will put a new spark plug in and throw fresh fuel in , Pragmatic393 yes I did get it started in the past , it was hard to start then , but when it warmed up it started in a couple of pulls with the throttle cracked a bit , Pragmatic393 what do you suggest for a ratio ? Riptide369 , how do I go about testing the kill switch ?

I would try to disconnect it from the wire harness, then try to start it. If it starts then the button is making contact in the switch.

You try cussing at it? It normal doesn't help but sure makes you feel better

I don't think all the stock carbs have a replaceable jet (hence all the starting problems). I hate to recommend a ratio that'll fry the lil thing but 60:1 i about the ratio that works well in ours. Start with that and add a bit more oil on the next tank Heck, I think I have a few of the lil chinese terror bikes around the house, If you bomb it I'll send you another one fo free J/K

Oh yeah, check the chain tension and exhaust header bolts very often. Those bikes are freaking rattle traps.

Guys

Checked the kill switch ,wasn't the problem , and cleaned the spark plug real good Not sure what I did but , i was fiddling around with the carb and I disconnected the fuel line between the tank and the top of the carb just to assure it was getting fuel and that the hose was not clogged ..... so when I removed it there was a steady supply of fuel , I connected the hose back up and for the heck of it I tried starting it ........ to my surprise it fired right up after a coupe of pulls ??????? What do you guy think ..... some sort of air lock within the carb?
