| YES. WELL. This is an important maintenance check you need for your engine for the YFZ-450. Checking the Engine oil. First off, do not screw in the dipstick when checking the oil. 1. Place the machine on a level surface. 2. Start the engine, and warm it up until the engine oil has reached a normal temperature of 40 degrees. Let it continue to idle for ten seconds, and then turn the engine off. NOTE: To achieve the proper engine oil temperature for an accurate oil level reading, the engine must have completely cooled down, and then warmed up again for several minutes to normal operating temperature. 3. Check Remove dipstick. Do not screw in the dipstick. when checking your oil. Oil level should be between the minimum level mark and the maximum level mark. Wait a few moments for the oil to settle before checking it. The motor should be warm. recommended oil is SF SE CC SF SE SD etc. DO NOT ADD ANY CHEMICAL ADDITIVES! ENGINE OIL LUBRICATES THE CLUTCH, AND ENGINE ADDITIVES COULD CAUSE CLUTCH SLIPPAGE! (only noticeable on DRAG RACES usually)-daddog. DO NOT ALLOW FOREIGN MATERIAL (sand dirt) to enter crankcase!) Start engine, warm it up for several minutes then turn it off. Check engine oil level. See page 3-21 in the manual for bolt positions. CHANGING THE OIL LEVEL 1. Remove engine skid plate 2. Start up engine, let it warm it up, and then turn it off. 3. Place a container under the engine drain bolt. 4. Remove engine oil filler cap and dipstick. 5. Remove engine oil drain bolt (oil tank) along with washer. 6. Remove engine oil drain bolt (crankcase) along with the gasket. 7. Remove oil filter drain bolt. 8. Drain engine oil completely from the oil tank and the crankcase. 9. Remove the oil filter element cover and oil filter elemet. It is on the right side of the quad behind the large grey round housing. It has two metal pipes coming out. Check the o-rings and replace if cracked. Install the new oil filter and oil filter element cover. 10. Check engine oil drain gasket. Replace if damaged, or if you have a leak. 11. install engine oil crankcase drain bolt torqued to 14 foot pounds, and replace oil filter element drain bolt torqued at 7.2 foot pounds. IMPORTANT! 12. Fill engine crank case with 1/3 liter oil in crank case. Fill OIL tank with 1.6 quart oil 1/3 quart in engine and 1 quart PLUS 2/3 quart in the tank. Last edited by 2fun; 05-30-2004 at 01:45 AM. |
