One day many years ago I was racing Jeff Ward and JM Bayle in Europe. We had a titanic battle for first, roosting each other, block passing, elbows. On the last lap there was this huge, 400 yard flat uphill run and I had it pegged in 5th, when all of a sudden Wardy pummled me from behind. The handlebars started swapping and I was in a MAJOR tank slapper. I shot over the berm and rammed Bayles Factory Honda trailer so hard that it..........woke me up! I was wrecked, what a dream!

Sorry 'bout that humor.. I just got back into riding late last year, have not had any major wrecks....yet! A few slow motion saves but that's it. Going back a few years, the worst I can recall is heading up the face of a table top jump and the guy next to me shoulder charged me (accident) which sent me sideways up the face of the jump at an angle. I went straight up, off the side of the jump with not much forward speed and just dropped about 20 feet onto flat, hardpacked ground. Everything bottomed out, including my....twig and berries. I squeaked for a few days after!

My worst wreck so far is the one that happened most recently. It was my first race to ever enter on the third lap. I was comfortably in 5th place with 4th and 3rd in my sights and ready to make a move. I almost had them in the corner before a 60ft triple that I had attempted once or twice but not cleared. I carried so much more speed out of the corner than I had in practice that I was sure I could clear it and clinch 3rd and move on to 2nd. Well I didn't clear it, instead as soon as I took off a huge gust of wind caught me in mid air and whipped my bike sideways. My front wheel landed right on the upface of the landing with my rearend pretty whipped out. The force of the landing completely bottomed my suspension and upon rebound I highsided down the landing which was a good 30 ft down and rolled the whole way. I jumped up, my left knee was in terribly pain. Before the medics even made it to me I knew I was done for so I just started my bike back up and rode back to the pits. Found out 3 weeks later after getting 2 opinions that I had bruised the bone in my left knee but not actually torn or injured anything else. I'm off the bike for at least 3 more weeks wearing a knee brace to keep my knee from bending into strange positions that cause unimaginable amounts of pain. I wish I had a copy of the MRI that shows a spiderweb like bruise running through the bone of my left leg.

Went off a jump, rear rebound set too fast, went over the falls. Mid 3rd. Bike just missed me.

My bad crash would have to be...... I was at a friends backyard practice track. I Just had my bike worked on and the throttle was acting up a little. So I came around the berm in second and when I hit third the throttle stuck wide open. I left the takeoff with it pinned and overshot the landing by a good 10-15 feet, so I bailed. Ended up braking my left foot when I landed.

I have had some bad ones on both bikes that I own....Thank fully none of them left me in the hospital and I have never in my life broken a bone I would have to say that the worst that I can remember on my XR was I had a course marked out through my trails and was riding through this loop like i was in a hare scramble...was actually practicing...trying to build up my endurance and speed as well. I had made I think 2 laps around and came for the 3rd...there was this one straight where I had just been getting into 3rd because it was pretty slick...well the 3rd lap I hit it about tapped out in 4th and then all the sudden the rear end swapped out to the side and I highsided I guess you could say(what you see those sport bikers do when in a turn and the rear swaps out and pitches them off in the air). I didn't get hurt bad..just cuts and bruises but was pretty scary. For my CR I guess it would have to be when I was riding through my 3 mile singletrack loop one sunday practicing for my 1st race which was the NEXT sunday...I had made about 2 laps this time as well and came through this 1 spot about pinned in 3rd gear and clipped a tree with my right hand guard...it knocked the bars out of my hand and slammed the bike to the ground throwing me over the bars on the left side and threw me down way off the trail. That one hurt pretty bad and ruined my day...My goal was to go for 1 1/2 hours as hard as I could....I got to about 50 mins

ive had concussions and crap but i still say the freakiest wreck i ever had was when i was at my track just putting around and there was a huge mud hole and i tried to take a detour off the track around it and i saw a place where it looked like the smooth wire fence was out (there was still a top strand left:S) so i got clothes lined in 3rd gear had a huge bruise/strawberry on my neck.......couldve been decapitated

Hmmm my worst. there's so many. lol, jp. I'll have to say last December when i was riding at a little place i ride (you know, that place) and i was hitting this jump, then i saw a steeper spot off the back of the berm and i thought, hmmm lets hit it 2nd pinned and land on the downhill on the other side of the trail. well lets just say the take off was short and steep. i went over the bars and broke my hand. My body felt like someone kicked every square inch of me. |

A while back a co-worker brought his new-to-him '99 CR500 by work just as we closed. Everyone was out back in the field behind the building admiring his bike and he unloaded it for a few of us to ride. The field is mostly flat except for a little hill about 2-1/2 ft tall near where we parked. Everyone else was blazzing across the field and back to see how fast it was. It was finally my turn, the first time on board a CR500. I putted around for a second and then opened it up across the field. Needless to say, it was fast. On the way back I slowed up for the hill, shifted to 2nd and prepared to jump the little mound of dirt. As I started over it I cracked the throttle open and the bike instantly shot out of under me and landed on the back tire. For some stupid reason I decided to hang on. There I was, throttle locked open in 2nd with my body extended super man style and heading straight for a chain link fence. I collided with the fence going as fast as you can in 2nd on a CR500. My left shoulder hit one of the fence polls and dislocated it, other than that I was just dazed. I probably would have went through the fence, but there were 10 semi-truck tires barrel stacked on the opposite side of the fence that saved me. That was my worst, but this last summer I did manage to find a tree stump while trail riding that earned me two broken ribs.

Faded...dang, pretty descriptive. Mine was a long time ago...about 7 years. A short, 10-mile course near Plaster City, CA. Nearly finished my first lap, going down this long, whooped out section, prolly third or fourth gear. Clipping along pretty good, not feeling out of control at all. All the sudden, the rear starts to swap. I remember that part so well...swapped to the right once, I thought "oh no", swapped to the left....and that was that. Next thing I know, my husband and nephew are there (I passed both of them

Wow Char good story. At least you good now My worst crash was about two weeks ago I was riding home across my cousins pasture tapped in 4th gear and came up on a trail that I've ridden a million times and hit a couple little bumps, flew a little waise, came down hard on the throttle and all of a sudden the bike just stood up like somebody kicked in the NOS and didn't tell me. I kinda remember trying to take a step or two and obviously it didn't help, and tumbling. Now two weeks later I have a knee that is seriously the darkest color of black I've ever seen and a the bruises on my back shoulder and head (yes through the helmet) are disapearing. WOHOO everybody should try it. I hit a rock I never saw that was about the size of a basketball.

I went off on soggy dry lake bed in so cal at about I estimate 85-90 mph on my YZ-490 after I hit a rut that started a head shake from H-E-double hockey sticks when I was 15. I knew I was in trouble when I found myself separated from the bike and in the air...had just enough time to roll up into a ball so I wouldnt break every limb on my body...I dont think there was a single part of me that wasnt bruised after that one...didnt break anything though! Kids are made of rubber..if I did that now id be in traction for sure. The bad one was in Gorman CA riding in the foot hills. I came off one fire road to a connecting one sideways at about 50 mph or so...front end washed out and I found myself slamming the bike down on my knee (which smashed the cartledge of course), then I got separated from the bike and slid backwards on my hands and knees into a dirt bank...I still feel that one.
