I could never get into going to the gym...by the time I dropped the kids off somewhere or waited for Daniel to get home to watch them, it just never seemed to work out. And now..well, no gym here . I need to get motivated myself though, I haven't ran in about 3 weeks. Feelin a bit like a slacker now .

Jonathan...I feel confident you can accomplish what you want without going to a gym...you just need to figure out what works for you. So don't get discouraged, this first bit of it is just that..figuring out what'll work. In the last year and a half, I've dropped about 30 pounds, and that was mostly changing my diet around and the treadmill, but I know not everyone likes the treadmill....

Anyway...I'll stop now. And, thanks for the welcome back.

The gym is a five minute walk from my house so that's ok. They have lots of stuff to do cardio like bicycles, stairstep, crosstrainer, rowingmachine, threadmills. You name it they got it. Also a nice touch is that the machines are working on your heartbeat. You wear a brestthing that monitors your heartbeat and send it to the machine. Before you start to workout (the very first time only, every six months after) you have to do a test to see in what kind of condition you're in. Then they put the results in the computer. All the machines are logged on to the pc and they arrange the heartbeat when you're working out. If the beat is too slow they make you run faster, or on rowing give more resistance. The beat too fast they slow down. For me they keep my heartbeat always between 150 and 170 beats per minute. This is good I think

Yeah, the HR monitors are very cool. I have one that I currently use (but my watch tells me what I'm doing) and it's very cool. Very helpful as well.

I agree..the HR dealie is cool. And Frakke..I wasn't bagging on your going to the gym. Man, in the days before I had kids...it was easy to do. And then I grew up...and out.

I've not worked out in 5 days. I'm feeling really down about it, but not motivated to do jack.
WOODY... stick with it man! It takes time, three weeks ins't enough. It's too easy to get bummed out and just stop everything, but you have to do something, no matter how small, to just keep it going. I think everybody goes through the same thing with the motivation, or lack thereof. Sometimes it helps me if I just do a half workout to get started. Once you start into it you might feel like doing the whole thing, either way you're doing something. The trick is to somehow just get started. After a few days off, I feel bad too, then I remind myself that I've got a lot of money tied up in bikes and I really want to get every pennies worth of enjoyment out of it that I can, that means getting into better shape. Don't think about it... just DO it.

I haven't worked out in YEARS, so again, I wanted to make sure my form was good, and that I wouldn't strain/pull/or injur something. I'll have to see about using more weight, but part of the problem, I'm going to run into is I don't have an easy way to get that much weight over my head and onto my shoulders. I will work on that though. I think you're right...

Ok, damn it, I'll get back on the horse tomorrow... No more excuses, and I'll go buy some food for work, so I start eating 3 meals at least a day... I think that may be a key.

See, I knew you guys would be a big help.
oh. i thought you had a squat rack? pretty simple to build... 2" square stock and some stubs to rack the bar, probably 2 hours of work, mostly cutting the material to the right angle and the 30 or so stubbies. i'll see if i can draw one to show you.

other than that....

THATS THE ATTITUDE I WANT, YOU BETTER GETCHER TUBBY ARSE BACK ON THAT ROUTINE OR I'LL HAVE TO SHOVE MY SIZE 14'S RIGHT UP THERE... YOU DONT WANT A FAT, BOWLEGGED REDNECK TO SHOW YOU UP DO YOU BOY?!?! THATS RIGHT!!! QUIT STANDIN AROUND AND WORK!! WORK BOY, WORK!! ONLY 5 MORE REPS, COMON! YA....(insert many vulgar slang adverb/verb/nouns here...)

the words of my coach.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the words of encouragement.

I didn't workout again yesterday, but it was stricktly a time issue. I had none. Today I'll get it done.

Woody...you aren't the only one! I go through the exact same things.... Keep working because it will pay off, I have to keep telling myself that. Charlene is so right it's really hard when you have kids...time just becomes a hugh issue.
Any way I have to keep going!
Good luck

Today I started back with the running outside. I ran about 1 hour and was pretty exhausted, running always beats the inside gym stuff for me, just gets you a bit closer to the real thing I think

Thanks again.

The wife said I could get a recumbent bike, so I'm pretty excited about that. Taht was probably my biggest deterrent. I hated walking in the freezing weather. It'll probably go unused in the summer, but it will sure be nice in the winter.
