| Ok, so I just finished my first week of working out. I think it was a sucess. Whenever I've made a goal to start working out, I've never made it out of the first week. I haven't noticed a difference yet, as I really think my body is still in shock and not sure what to do with all this working out. I can tell you, I'm sleeping better at night, and I do have more energy which is a very nice plus. But I've been pretty sore too, which obviously hampers my energy level some. My wife also said I look thinner already (though my weight actually went up, but that usually happens when I start working out, as I'm sure the muscles grow quicker then the fat burns away). Here's today's results (dang it was cold out too): I also had my wife take all my pertinent measurements so I can look back and see the progress. I'll take these every Saturday. I currently weigh myself daily and note it down as well. I'm taking sunday off and I'll get back to it on Monday. |

| jonathan, man this is a great thread! you've made it through the first week which is often times when people tend to fizzle out. please do keep us updated so we can keep tabs on your progress. also, i think it will be great for people that have contemplated sticking to a workout routine to see the results from one report to the next. one thing that i believe tends to be discouraging to some is that they'll work out for a month and will still have those love handles, or haven't lost the weight that they wanted to. a very important thing to remember is how long it took to pack the weight on in first place. often times people will pack weight on without realizing it, and it happens over the course of months or years so dropping those pounds will not happen right away. taking that weight off is completely possible, but it must be understood that it is a gradual process and this is where a routine pays off. you get in the groove and working out becomes a habit more than a chore. and i'm not surprised that your wife noticed, people at work will probably begin to notice pretty soon as well. you tend to pack the weight on starting in the middle of your body (stomach and arse) and from there you'll put it on in your thighs and legs (going down) as well as your arms, neck, and face (going up). typically as you back the weight off, it comes off in the opposite order meaning that your face will being to look thinner. that's usually how you first notice that someone has dropped some weight, you can see it in their face. you mentioned the weight you dropped by quitting soda intake. man, i can't tell you how much of a difference that makes. our company has coke machines in the break room and all of the cokes are free. well, that's the last thing that a lot of the desk job type of people need. most of the time you're cooped up in a cubicle all day so you're hardly moving (burning calories) in the first place, but then you make matters worse by drinking all of that sugar and calories in a can. there are a few guys that i work with that, at one time or another, quit drinking cokes while they were trying to get their weight under control. just by giving up cokes, no working out or food diet, one of them lost about 15 pounds and another lost over 20. anyone that's wanting to lose weight, think about that. commit to not drinking coke, pepsi, dr. pepper, mt. dew, etc. for two months. that's only 60 days, which is nothing. you'll be surprised how much of a difference it will make. instead of drinking soda, drink some ice water. keep it up jonathan, and keep us posted. zack |

| Good to hear your working out. Keep it up and keep us posted. It's very hard but having loads of wheel power helps alot. As much wheel power as the CRF450 you ride would help. < I had to say that it was obvious right!! |

| Thanks you guys. I appreciate it. Thanks for the words of wisdom Z, I appreciate those as well. some benefits as I see them (just to help keep me excited and motivated, and maybe someone else too): I'm probably most excited to see how this translates on the track on race day. I have a feeling I'll really like the results. I think I'm as fast or faster then half the guys in my class for 1 lap. Problem is they are faster over 4. I'm hoping this will change that. | That's awesome Woody, as soon as a few things pass in my life, I am going to start a regular program as well, the cool part about mine is that I can include 1 20 min moto everyday as well. Just need to get some things sorted out and then it's on. |

| Woody- Glad to see you started a workout program. Just a little advice from someone that has been a Gym Rat for the past 10 years. Every January the gym gets flooded by the New Years Resolution crowd and sometime around April they all disappear due to warm weather. Given that our common interest here involves the outdoors, it will be difficult not to fall into this same pitfall once spring hits your area. Hopefully you will see great results when you do get to ride and stay motivated to keep going to the gym. The cardio will keep you from sucking wind so hard after a few laps and getting stronger will help you hold on to that red monster. If your gym has an arm bike try to work that into your routine. It looks like a seat with pedals up about shoulder level. It will increase your range of motion in your shoulders and arms and has helped me reduce arm pump. One last thing, the scales are important but also pay attention to the way you look and especially to how your clothes fit. You will reach a point where you are not losing weight on the scales but everything is looking different due to gaining muscle. |

| Thanks MXCOP, I'm actually working out at home with my own weights (traded my full suspension Mnt bike for it 4 years ago), so I don't have anything more then what I already have. We're working on getting a bike and maybe a treadmill. I hope to never stop working out. That's my plan anyway. Actually, speaking of working out... |

Gosh, I can see this is going to be an uphill battle... Do you guys care to see the screen shots of my workouts? If not I won't post them. |

| Okay, so I'm nearing the end of 3 weeks. Last week didn't go as well as planned. I didn't do any cardio (walking) at all, but I did do all my workouts (3). We had our baby that week, so it was a hectic week anyway, so I can write that off as "Life" Week 3 has gone okay. I worked out Mon, Tues, and Wednesday. Thursday I just plumb forgot, which is odd Friday, I didn't have time. Grrr... So today, I'm going to do Friday's workout and Saturday's Cardio in one day. I'm pretty pissed at not getting Friday's workout in. I slept longer then usual, and was actually late for work (I work graves for those that don't know), so I need to really plan better so it all works out. I'm a little frusterated at this point. I weigh myself daily and I'm not losing weight.. I know you gain initially, but this is 3 weeks into it, and I've gained probably 5 lbs. Today is measurement day though, so I'll compare my last two weeks and see how they look. The wife commented as I was getting the shower that my rear was looking a lot better, so that's good, but she could just be being nice since she knows I'm a little frusterated. I have not wanted to implement any kind of diet, since it's really not something I'll stick to, but I'm thinking it may be a good idea. My wife also recommended that we take some pictures so we can compare them later on. I think I'll do that weekly when I take my measurements. Don't worry I will NOT be posting them. I think it's time I go get either a tredmill or a recumbent bike too. This walking outside thing, just isn't cutting it. It's boring, and FREAKING COLD!!! Then I could look forward to watching an MX video as I walk. That would certainly help me stay motivated. Is anyone else working out? I've got 2 more weeks until, Mesquite where I am hoping I see a HUGE difference when riding. *frusterated* Woody |

| Woody, First big congates on working out and staying with it. If I were you I would through away the tape and scale. Make a day once a week or so and do the deed. Looking at your workout looks more like a pre-workout. When you stop getting sore and what not go for 3-4 sets of 10-12 reps. The 1 set stuff is a good warm up but you need to work yourself hard to see the kind of results you want. Don't even worry about the amount of wieght your putting up if you need to go to 15lbs for 4 sets of bicep curl then do it. but do more than 1 or 2 sets then move on to the next body part. You have a great work out just "in my opinion have to boost the reps" you will burn more fat and lose wieght quicker with more reps. 1-1.30 min of rest between sets. Keep up the good work dude. |
